So who else is anti narrowed body???

I'd never molest the sheetmetal on my 84K10 (that includes trimming). I'd never molest the sheetmetal on something that is going to see regular street use.

However, I have a 79K5 which has lost most of its metal to mother nature (let's just say I could fit 38s and it's only got a 4" lift). I've already started to hack on it to narrow the front. I'm going to test my elite narrowing skills on it before I put my 87C10 cab and front clip on the frame and do the same to it. My goal is to build something I don't worry about dents with and can keep up with the Jeep guys.

Neither set of sheetmetal is "good". Both have plenty of speedholes and let's just say that the seats mimic rocking chairs. If the sheetmetal was "good" or at least "Roy's Used Cars fixable" there's no way in hell I'd hack on it.

a lot of extremely nice K5s on this site have been destroyed by hacking the body

Can't agree more, I can think of a few K5's that were sweet trucks but have found themselves in pieces or hacked and beat. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
I actually think the narrowed front is cool if it is not okied, just look at Sandman's truggy. I think it would be rediculous if anyone drove a narrowed rig on the street a lot though.

Miner trimming on a DD is just an excuse for not adding an extra inch or two of lift. IMHO/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif
Everyone knows I hate fender trimming, I don't care if it's just a little.....if you only need to trim a "little" than add extra 1" of lift and you would probably be able to get away with not hacking if the tires are small enough.

Yes, I am the leader of the "can't clear your tires? Than just lift it more!" crowd. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/pimp1.gif
Get those tires out of the fenderwells. /forums/images/graemlins/pimp1.gif

I know it isn't just Me who is not a fan of the narrowed body look. I just dig the whole fullsize ideal /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
So let the bashing begin /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

[/ QUOTE ]I think they look cool, but I'm not going to do it to my K5. I'll trim the fenders, but I want it too remain a K5.

I don't like it either. Sandman's rig looks awesome, but I love the front end of a K5. The reason I bought a K5 inthe first place is the look of them. I don't mind cutting the fenders it's pretty easy to keep the body lines. I may change my mind too though last year I didnt want to cut my fenders. /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif

I think they look mean but up here its all i can do keep metal on my rig to even think about taking any off
so if any you guys got good metal and thinking off cutting, I will trade you, most of mine has half the job done for ya
k5s are to nice to chop , chop a yota

As another original member like you, I personally hate the trend as I see it has evolved over the past few years. Used to be the mantra here was 'fullsizes rule' but that is clearly not the case for many..........but as they say, to each their own, if they want to hack up a nice K5, 'tis their's to do it to. I'd rather see more true truggy's being built if the goal is to fit down a Samarai trail. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

i like these blazers just the way they are /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

It all boils down to where you want to go
How much body damage you can live with and
how much you use your rig for other things
than playing in the mud and rocks. /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

I'm anti narrowed body-----i say take it all off and tube it /forums/images/graemlins/grind.gif /forums/images/graemlins/hack.gif /forums/images/graemlins/weld.gif.

actually if I had the body working skill i would have narrowed it.

I understand "to each their own"

But if you think about it, these guys narrowing their bodies love the way the fullsize Chevy truck looks. As do I. that is why they are narrowing it---because they also like to wheel the pi$$ out of it and keep the sheet matal off the rocks/trees/other trucks.

thats the way i see it anyway.

I like the look of the narrowed front clip, IF it's done cleanly. I'm not fond of the narrowed cab at all. Narrowed rear... again, not fond of it.
It would be interesting to see how much the narrowed front clip improved MPG on the highway... But it would be a ticket-magnet (at least around me it would - too much exposed tire).

I, too, love the look of the tapered ends BUT I would never do it to my own. IMO /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif, if you need to do that much body modification you need to find a good drivetrain donor and build a a buggy or truggy out of it.

I ended up doing the narrowing thing after a trip through UpperHelldorado. Before then I never considered it. I was thinking about going to an S10 Body but liked the look of the fullsize. I had seen other jobs that I did not like the look of so I put it off for some time. When I did do it, I took forever as I was very concerned about how it would look. I didnt want a hack job to drive around as it would be better to just remove the front metal completely.

It did make a huge difference in getting around in tight spots. My last trip to Boise really showed that my efforts were worth it.

Now if I had stayed in the mud or only mild rocks, Its really not worth the effort. I could also bolt on a new clip and still go back to the stock look if I wanted.

The cops did nail me on the street. Its a trailer queen now which sucks but thats life I guess.

I does seem to be the fab lately. When I did mine, I had only seen a few others done like Watson's. I dont think I had seen any done that retained the stock headlights (not that it hasnt been done). Seems that quite a few people are looking into it.

The rear is much easier then the front. Even narrowed in, I still have rock rash, so it was the right choice for me.

i cant really see wasting the time to trim it... if its in the way it'll move. after all its only sheet metal. i could see running into problems if i wasnt able to git up enough speed, or have the traction to bash in a corner that was in the way... maybe then id think about narrowing it. but if i wanted a smaller rig, id have built a smaller rig... or looked into rear steer

after my body started looking like this something needed to be done.. /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

i realize the mid section is still the same width. but it's a start. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

and that appears to be where the damage is in that photo
I always crunch the blind side and box sides
with factory sheetmetal you just unbolt and replace
with your custom stuff it looks like a lot of work to repair a panel
when I first started playing with these trucks the sheetmetal was incredibly cheap at the GM dealer
$70cdn for a front fender
$120cdn for a door
the panels were almost disposable cheap

I think you own the only brown truck I like the looks of
and yours was the last one I saw that made me think "too bad he cut it up"

I totally agree. I think some of the ones I have seen were done purely because it has become trendy. Like I said I'm not a fan of it but I also respect the way that others want to build their rigs. Myself personally if I had a problem with fitting My Blazer on to a trail I would just build one with out a body all together. Just a frame and some tube work. I mean what the hell if it's gonna be a trailer queen then why even mess with a body at all. Myself I want to drive My Blazer to all the places I want to see and wheel at, but I dont want to be getting tickets on My way to them.
