I have a 84 chevy k20 i want to make a 1ton, will dana 70's work and what mods will need to be done.

well the front dana 70 is prob going to be a closed knuckle style axle as most are because the kingpin versions are very hard to come by.. so IMOP i would say not to bother and just look for a corp 14/d60 front setup

The closed knuckle D70 front is about the same strength as an open knuckle D44.
