SoCal '85 6.2L Jimmy build

That is a nice looking copy of the motor manual.
I'm keeping it for reference.

Another annoyance CA gave us. Can't imagine what benefit that thing had on emissions.

Close to nothing as usual. I always laughed when taking my carbd 350 to smog it...making a 350 run clean...right!
Just another gimmick.

Interesting. Mine's an '83 and original to California (even says CA emissions on the underhood sticker). All it had was a C-code intake with EGR valve - no electronics at all. :dunno:

Yeah, thats weird. My '85 had the same thing to control the HEI, TPS, and idle circuit on the Computer Controlled Carb. Never seen so many wires coming off a carb before lol

I did notice that the obd2 was attached to a few cables that came out of it. Yes I ripped out the obd2 and all those cables.
Maybe in 85 GMC started to dabble in the feedback modules.
I'll take some more pictures tomorrow.

OBD2? Whaaaaa??? :dunno:

In 1985 the OBD2 form factor didn't even exist. ALDL ("OBD1") was incorporated on some California vehicles...

I'll snap some pics.
Feels like I am confusing myself even more. Maybe this is an alien truck.

I have seen a small number of 80s trucks with OBD2, but they're all folks on here who have done newer drivetrain swaps. :pimp:

Well it's not carborated. It's a 6.2L
But still doesn't explain what the port is for.
Let me shoot a pic when i'm out there. I was ripping things out in a hurry, but now I'm kinda curious.

Sorry, got my threads mixed up. :doah:

Having it on a 6.2 is weirder yet.

Ok you are right.
I just saw it in passing as I was ripping things out and it happened to be in the same spot I had one on another engine swap.
Got some pictures.

I think it was just a port to get info off the ECM.
Either way it's gone now.
Some guts that were removed:

I might have to go over to the 4bt swaps guys but figured I would drop it here first.

Anyone know what these connectors are to?
I think I have a few ideas, but the Isuzu manual is so cryptic.
They are running off the 4bd1t from the thermostat housing, above the power steering pump and off the block. So i think QOS, temp gauge and a couple others. I'm in the processes of trying to get the fuel shut off solenoid wired up and wanted to use the harness as it is.
The one with 3 prongs is the most confusing to me.
The single male I am pretty sure is ground.

Yes, that is ALDL (OBD-1). Not sure what it was for, it wasn't needed for engine control on non-California models. :dunno:

No, I don't have any info on the 4bd1t engine.

Just to clarify, this isn't in any way the same engine as a 4BT, right? Your comment confused me a bit.

.

Yes I know it's different from 4BT. But that forum has a few guys that specialize on the isuzu motor. They normally know what those obscure items are. I tried to read the manual but it's not illustrative on the harness.

I was asking a question, I wasn't actually sure. I knew it looked different, but that doesn't mean a whole lot. :haha:

No, I have no useful tech. info, I had hardly heard of the engine before you brought it into this thread.

But I am watching to see how it goes.

There are some similarities, but not a ton. This thing has quite a bit more engineering going on around it. Meaning it's more complicated.

They started off as a combined effort between isuzu and GM. The effort later resulted in the duramax. Which I kinda wish I had taken the challenge and installed one of those instead. I think it actually would have ended up being cheaper.

Worked all day on the plumbing for the power steering and brakes yesterday.
Later today I have to get some brake lines built for the dana 60 calipers and the last couple hoses for the PS plumbing.

I'm doing basically what PSC suggested - minus the hydro. I might do assist later if these 37's need it. I kinda doubt they will, but I like not having to worry about the stress on the frame.

After going back and forth about 3 times to Orme Bros I got most of what I need.
I'll be going back for hopefully the last line to be made.

I have the plumbing all laid out now.

I really hope these 24" lines are long enough. That was the length I saw posted elsewhere, but they feel kinda short. I'm going to have to flex the truck and see if it binds.

Random items + rear hose line.

I stripped out this stupid oil return on the timing cover. So Greg at WeaponsGrade had to step in an thread it for me.
We got a female NPT to an4 in place.

Routed it up to the return block that was fabbed by omre

Got the brake calipers back on

A few more components powder coated by weapons grade fab.
Includes a steering brace by ORD.
A high steer arm by ORD
The fuel control linkage for the 4bd1
A air filter holder in the top left.
