Got her installed today and I love it. I'm diggin the sides and rear rolled up and still having a canopy overhead. I also removed the stock HEAVY power window tailgate and replaced it with a regular old truck tailgate. I probally dropped 100 lbs just doing that alone. I figure between the hardtop and tailgate I shaved close to 400 lbs off the rear of the truck.

Nice. I wish my Jimmy worked so that I could put a top on it. Looks like you live in Fairbanks? the trees make me think that.

Cool, looks very nice. Told ya those tailgate were heavy :D

ya, no shi*!! I really got an idea when I took off the S.O.B and carried it over to my trailer!!. It felt heavy just puttin it up and down, try taking it all the way off. So do ya think 400 lbs saved is about accurate??? You guys think that'll make a noticeable difference?

I would say thats got to be pretty close to accurate. Give or take. I remember removing those tops where it was just a buddy and I taking the top off, just the two of us. Those damn things are heavy carrying just one side. A pickup tailgate is light as hell compared to the glass gate. Maybe not quite 100 lbs but not far off.

What a sweet looking blazer, never been a fan of the soft tops but now you got ma a thinkin ! Awsome.

What brand of soft top? New or used?

Looks great! x3 on brand? How was installation and fit? How do they seal around the back edge of the cab? 300-400lbs off at one shot should be a very noticable diff in performance i would think. I would like to do this to my dd just for the weight loss for mpg, and the cool factor!

Hey

The top is made by a company called SOFTTOPPER. they are out of Colorado. The soft top was used for 1 month and then the guy sold his Blazer. I got it for $300.00!!!!!. I found it on Craigslist of all places and just about shi* myself, I practically ran over there to scoop it up. Install was pretty easy, I had it all installed in less than 1 hour by myself. It high quality material. The windows also have a slight tint to them. I really like having the canopy overhead but still having the sides and back rolled up. In Alaska the weather can turn nasty real quick. The top seal pretty good, I'm sure in a heavy rain some water would get through somewhere but you'd stay 98% dry. I'm pretty happy with it. I actually did take it for a spin and maybe it was just my imagination but the truck felt a bit peppier and alot more nimble. The tailgate fit perfectly and latches like it was the factory gate, no complaints.

I have looked at that website once before they look like good quality tops. I was wondering tho and could never find it on the site. Is it possible to put that top all the way down like a jeep top? Im not the biggest fan of the canopy look and just would rather it all be down and then be able to put back up when the rain came. Looks great BTW

Yeah, it folds all the way down in about 3 seconds, its a pretty good design. I probally wont drop the top all the way down to much because its still an 82 K5 and no matter what there will still be a metal roof directly over my head when I'm driving. If it was a 75 or earlier Blazer with the FULL convertible then yeah I'd have it dropped alot for the SUN shining on my Head. I wanted this for the coolness factor, the more "open Air" feeling, and for the weight savings. Plus its easier accessing my gear now from the sides and rear.

Ya i just took my hard top off this afternoon and i SO wish i had the money for a soft top. It wouldnt have to be sitting in the garage right now while this storm passes:haha: Stupid spring showers come outta nowhere. This storm lasted mayb 30min and tonights will b from 12ish to 4ish. Then blue skys in time for school. Or so i hope considering this is my DD:eek1:

I just order the softtopper yesterday, e-mail says it will ship late this week early next week. Now I need to figure out how to tell the wife I spent $ 853.95:)

I ordered it for my '77 and did add the rear screen, all in black.

I'll post how it goes.

Just do what I did. You already had it shipped so it may be harder to explain. But I told my wife that I traded some parts for it. I had it shipped to my parent's house and went and picked it up that day. Worked like a champ...

Well it is getting shipped to my office. But I will not lie to my wife, I'll just install it with her help and if she asks I'll tell her how much. Maybe I'll wait until we are driving around town topless! Its really not a big deal to her. She spends her fair share and we just remodeled the main bathroom so its my turn for a few things this is only 1/20th of what we spent on the bathroom she wanted done.
