Pains me to do it but I'm going to be selling Big Ugly. Just can't justify having it, doesn't fit my needs, and at best it'd end up sitting in the garage most of the year while I scrimped to afford a DD car I could have bought outright by just selling it.

However I have no idea what it's worth. I got screwed royally when I bought it so since then I have purposely not paid attention to prices other than noting that values for these fell a lot when gas prices went up and then when the economy slumped.
So, you tell me, what's a good price? Anyone in Michigan got an opinion? It's still up near Grand Rapids.

'86 Chevy M1008 CUCV (so basically a '84 K30)
-55,000 miles and change (yes, really 55k, not 155k)
-6.2L J-code diesel (the more powerful model)
-TH400
-NP208
-D60 open with 4.56's
-14FF Detroit with 4.56's
-military 24v start dual alt and battery setup still, rest of truck is standard 12v GM.
-Burgundy interior, vinyl floor mat with no padding underneath. Power nothing except power steering.

-No BAD rust. Some rust here and there underneath but nothing structural or screaming "HOLY RUSTY!" If you know me you know I hate rust so that should give you a clue to how much rust this thing doesn't have. Could easily be cleaned up with some time, a steel brush, and Rust Bullet. Floors are solid, like no rust at all solid.
-Starts great thanks to the Wellman 070 glow plugs and 2 year old GIANT batteries.
-Paint new in late 2006 with real CARC paint.
-Has actual Class V type trailer hitch but did not cut or remove any of the D-ring mounts or the rear pintle hitch. The hitch has been Rhino Lined.
-Gas tank coated inside and out by Gas Tank Renu. It'll outlast the vehicle and then some.

"Mods":
-1" ORD zero rate AAL's in the front. Just used for 1" of front lift.
-Rough Country Nitro 9000 shocks. Rides nice, no bounce but not jarring.
-Dual CD player, Blaunkput speakers in dash, and Kenwood 6.5's in the doors.
-Has a cigarette lighter/"12v accessory point" in the stock location.
-Cherry Bomb mufflers in place of the factory mufflers with turn down tips after the rear springs. Nice exhaust note while flowing slightly better than stock. Not extremely loud or anything...it's a diesel...you can barely hear them over the stock rattle. Also no big tips hanging out to each side getting coated in debris and coughing soot on your other vehicles and garage stuff.
-ORD bolt on steering box brace. No frame cracks and steers very nice. Better than my stockish Blazer on narrow 32's.
-I've installed a redneck cold air intake that goes to the factory location of the civilian trucks on the core support. It works well but isn't the greatest. I actually have all the parts necessary to install a civilian cold air intake. Just never got around to it.
-CUPHOLDERS! Two fold down cup holders on the dash. Will hold any reasonably normal size drink in a bottle or cup. No, your 190 once Big Gulp or morning coffee won't fit.
-Trimmed and cut fenders. The typical stuff - behind the front tires was trimmed and the lower portions of the front "fangs" and the rear fender between the tires and bumper were removed. Cutting appears to be decently straight.:wink1: No seriously, I did it myself and took my time just to make sure I didn't **** my baby up. Cleaned up and touched up with actual CARC touch up paint.
-11.00R16 Michelin XL tires that have been cut and grooved. Balanced with airsoft BB's These are a 38x11ishR16 tire that runs smooooooth. Load Range F or something high like that, were intended to go under USMC LAV-25 vehicles and never actually balanced. Chuck clumps of earth and yet go 70 with less vibe than any other 38" radial tire.
These are on silver painted GM 2007 16x6.5 steel wheels. Excellent condition, I never drove it in the salt and the guy I got them from had 100 miles on his van when he had them removed.
Tires tuck under the fenders and do not rub except if you crank the wheel hard, flex the front hard and then they only actually brush the back of the wheel well. Never touch the fender.
-Comes with a fullsize spare.

The "bad":
-Needs door hinges but not so bad the doors don't open and shut.
-Not super pristine but still, 90-95%.
-Leaks oil out of the mainseals as is typical with the old 6.2L's. Nothing to be worried about except if you plan on driving it at 70mph for hours on end.
-NP208 has a cracked tailshaft (thanks GovLiquidation:mad:) but it doesn't do anything but weep slightly. I have a whole replacement tailshaft but haven't bothered to use it.
-Side window seals are a bit dry and cracked and the vent windows seals as well. Windows go up and down and keep the water out though.
-Haven't recalibrated the speedo. 45mph indicated is right about 55mph indicated.
-Uhmmmmm...I'm not wealthy enough and don't have a pole barn so I could just toss it in the corner and drive it when I feel like it.

Basically:
It's a CUCV on 38's with 1" of lift, cut fenders, drives great, is Big, Ugly, and loud, scares Al Gore and luxury vehicles, and doesn't presume to be anything more than a big one ton pickup. Reliable and safe. It's not a show vehicle but not a beater and gets comments where ever I or my buddy take it. If I had known it would have come to this I could have sold it a few times already. My buddy and I both have had people dead nuts serious offer to buy it on the spot.

DAMN AJ.....I wish....I'm thinking upwards of 7500, I hope thats not an insult, but compared to some of the "genuine military" advertised ones I've noticed for 4-6 range yours is really nice....good luck bud.

In my neck of the woods... I don't think you'd get more than 5k for it.

I think they're awesome and plan on using one of these as my starting point for my next project... price point around here seems to be between 2800 - 3200 in stock form

Couldnt get 3k for it here...

Really depends on where you are but if you take a look at my truck besides the fact that your truck has a 60 front I'm having trouble getting $3000 for a totally built truck...

in socal I see junkers on Craigslist for $4K regularly. You may post it up for trade and see what you get. What that means where you are is anyones guess. Sure is a great looking truck though.

People pay good money for these trucks. I think you could get a decent amount for it especially if it's in good shape.

To everyone saying you wouldn't get more than 3k or you'd make more parting it out....realize these trucks aren't very common in MI. The ones you do see are see through and beat to hell, and still bring $4000 on a bad day. I think I might have seen 4 of them since I've started looking for one. If it's as clean as you say it is (and I don't doubt you), I'd list it for 6k and go from there.

I paid $7500 for it in October 2006 only to find it wasn't perfect like they advertised it and gotten a "just as solid but not as pretty" surplus one all day for $4000. Don't even get me started on the 6.5L TD, 4L80, lifted on 37's one I saw on ebay a while later...:doah:

I do not know your market but i would ist it for 5400 and take 5,000 for it.
I'm thinking I'm going to start at around $6k and see how it goes. Bank on the "rust free" factor and Michigan. Dunno though, hard times change things. I'm going to go dig up a couple of old forums I used to read that are Michigan based. See what those guys say.

I put mine up in MI for $4500 and dropped to $4000... not one bite. Mine is all stock all all rust free. 58,000 miles.

I ONLY want to sell mine if this certain other truck is still available... otherwise, mine isnt for sale.

Even though a solid 80s Chevy truck is very rare in MI... the economy SUCKS the big one for selling anything.

I'll take it off your hands for 3k, if you pay for shipping it to Sweden :D

But seriously, why not sell the Blazer instead?
Can't the dogs ride back on the bed:rolleyes:

Or get a really cheap sh*t car for daily driver, so you don't have to sell any of them:deal:

I think you'll regret selling it later...
I know I would, but I'm a hoarder on the other hand and can't sell a thing:o

I agree with Fred. Once something is paid for, I try to keep it until I get into a real bind. If you sell it, you'll be sorry later on when something happens to the econo car you'll buy with the money and then you'll wish you still had the Big Ugly! You're never going to get your money out of something you put a lot of work into. I bought my truck for $1200 and I think I now have about $7000 in it. I could proabably sell it for $2500 if I'm lucky. I won't hurt for it to sit around in the yard. My wife has an old Jeep CJ she just loves, but it just sits in my garage taking up space most of the time. She probably drives it about 100 miles per year. She could get $9000 for it pretty easy but the thought of selling it makes her break out in hives.:D

It's going away. I have no use for it and can't keep it anywhere down here that wouldn't force me to put something else I either like or am paying for out in the driveway instead of the garage.

Big Ugly goes bye bye.

not trying to hijack here, but do you have some more pics of it, like from the side. i want to put my xzl's on my v30 with no lift. i just want to get an idea of how they fit with minimal or no lift
street driving only for now.
my fenders are dented, so hacking it is no prob.i just would like to keep the inners mostly intact.
i would add yours to my fleet if i had the money. it's alot nicer than most.
but due to the economy they just dont go for much, there is a stock one for sale by my house for only $2200:frown1: and it's been for sale for a while.
4wiw i would keep it, i would rather park my truck outside than sell somthing i have alot of effort into making it my own.

As I've said before. I just can't park it AND get a driver.

There are pics on here and on my CarDomain. Link through the profile or search for my name there.
