SOLVED - Urgent Help Needed Right Now

Yeah if you go by weight, AC Delco is going to way of the fram, It's all about Wix or K&N or any other premium name brand, an oil filter shouldn't be under 4 dollars

I think you guys are kind of spinning your wheels.

More important is the type of filter media used. Wix, hastings, most Fleetguard filters use a cellulous filter media. Their quality stands as good quality filters.

If you want a really good filter go with a nanofiber media filter. it's a synthetic filter media that breaks down slower than cellulous and also has more storage space internally to hold more material. Generally, they are used in extended drain applications with a premium synthetic, and run about twice to three times the price.

Donoldson Endurance (what I use), Fleetguard Stratopore, all Amsoil filters... are all nanofiber filters.

I won't even bother commenting on fram, but I think I'd consider a filter port block off plate before I'd use one....

yup...

I think the circular peice of window screen in the sump of my '63 VW Beetle did a better job of filtering the oil ,than a Fram filter would!..it's amazing how long those air cooled motors ran with hardly any oil filtration,or a real oil filter!..guess Fram is hoping that holds true on any motor their filters get used on too...

After seeing the insides of several brands of filters when a WIX factory rep cut some open right off our shelves,I'm suprised Fram filters last even 3000 miles without having a hemmorage!..I saw string holding the paper element together, and cheesy sheet metal "springs" instead of real coiled wire ones to hold the element centered in the canister..and there wasn't half the filtering media of the other brands, even some "cheap" ones like Group 7,a "economy" line made by Purolator..

The WIX rep said Fram spends more money on advertising than product research!..but people fall for the ads, think they are buying a good filter..many never even heard of "WIX"...shows how much the media influences people...

BTW,as far as I know Fram is still located in Providence RI,and makes all their own filters..I doubt Purolator or any other reputable manufacturer wants a bad reputaion from being tied in with Fram..but who knows, with all the buyouts and brand names being sold lately ,WHO really makes anything anymore!.. ..all I know is I'd use a Fram only as a last resort,if nothing else was available, and I'd change it as soon as possible..just so I don't sound biased,I'd not use several other brands either--Fram aint the only crappy oil filter maker!..

Anyone who's worked with heavy equipment or farm machinery's probably heard of WIX, and we all know what kind of working environment that stuff has to endure. Compare that to the average daily commut of most peoples cars, it's no wonder WIX has a good product, They HAVE to! Oh, and for what it's worth, i've never had a problem removing an oil filter, and I've always changed my oil hot(guess I figurer it flows out better, I dunno!:doah: )
