SOLVED - Urgent Help Needed Right Now

when i worked at Jiffy Lube 5 long years :doah: i had what was known as "the claw". to most people it looked like an ordinary left arm, to a stuck oil filter, it meant certain demise. :haha: i actually had to go other stores a couple times because they couldnt get a filter off. what's really messed up is im right handed.

Interesting...

Now that I am using a higher quality oil filter (Mobil 1), I have already noticed better oil pressure and more consistant oil pressure. I don't think I will do Fram again. :angry1:

your oil filter has no bearing on your oil pressure.

Lube the seal next time, and once you get the thing threaded a few turns, get your hand good and oily with old oil, and tighten the filter until you can't grip it anymore. Your hand will slip before you overtighten the filter (unless you use the ninja death grip). I've been doing that for probably 75,000 miles and have yet to have a problem getting a filter off.

i work at a gas station and do lots of oil changes, i was tought to use white glue, put it on the seal and they usually come right off

Then why has my oil pressure raised slightly and is now less eractic?

That's weird that you guys are having trouble with these. I've changed oil for 16 years and never had one stuck.

I don't use Fram nor Bosch anymore, they don't filter the oil as good. I use the K&N oil filters now and I can tell they work better. They feel heavier when you take them off, so they're really filtering the oil like they're supposed to do. Fram and others feel kinda light for a 3,000 mile interval.

TJ, I'm so glad you came up..I'm just so buzzed up from drinkin' Guinness then your avatar got me bobbin' :D

I'd never use a FRAM filter on anything I own, after seeing one cut away, and whats inside them (or should I say the LACK of whats inside them!?) --compared to a WIX or BALDWIN filter, they are junk..they cost little more, but I feel they are well worth another dollar or two..one thing I wont skimp on is oil and filters--I'll pinch pennies everywhere else, but not on those two items..

x2 on this one. Ive talked to many mechanics and employees at the parts house and all of them said to stay away from fram filters. never actually seen cut away views but the people I talked to about it said fram sucks. I use wix every time.

Ah, give Jeremy a break, he just isn't good with a newbie mistake.

It's obvious he's getting the filter too tight, otherwise it would come off fairly easy. Plus, having the right tool for the job makes things twice as easy.

Turn the filter by hand, thats tight enough. If you are nervous, check to make sure it isn't leaking and you'll be fine. If you don't crank it down with a wrench, it will come off nearly by hand again every time. I don't work at JiffyLube, but I maintain all of my equipment and probably change 150+ filters a year. Haven't had one stuck since I learned not to crank on it with a filter wrench.

Also, get one of these, makes life a slice of pie...

The best way I've found to pick the best filter is by weight, the heaver it is the better it is. I buy Wix when ever I can[ NAPA] They have a good range of applications for the odd ball jobs.

i had the idea for the reply, but couldnt word it decent enough for the garage. you covered it, so i didnt have to do it. :waytogo:

but what's it really matter when the cardboard discs come loose from the filter media? then, you've got no means of filtration. ever see what happens when you spill oil on cardboard? now imagine soaking it in oil for months....:deal:
