well ive been posting on here for a while and have always had great help. so i think it is time i finally post some pictures and tell you a little about my truck

my brother inlaw owned this truck about 8 years ago when he and my sis started dating. it had a 350/465/208 rear 12b and a d44 front 6" lift with 35's. i always loved this thing and was actually kinda mad when he sold it. he sold it to one of his buddys for 5 grand and his friend really ran it into the ground. messed up the body, ruined nearly all of the wiring, did a shady motor rebuild, and then just let the once nice truck sit. i started talking to him about it and i ended up getting it for 700 bucks when i was 16. it didnt run but i didnt care. i had a 383 waiting at home for it.

2 years im finally getting it to a point i can start driving it and then the customizing will begin. im not going to build it too extreme, it will still be a DD. (it took me so long because i was a poor high school student:D)

here are some pics

this is what everyting looked like after a nice bath. its still on little tires due to the weather rot on the 35s

and how it looks all clean and topless

right now im in the process of ditching the holley projection tbi and going carbed. hopefully this will be back on the road soon. i also have pictures of the entine build so far. if i can find them i will share some

the reason for ditchin the tbi is the projection is garbage. it wont stay tuned and never really runs right. i cant just throw the stock unit on because the P.O. got rid of all the wiring, and i have been told that stock tbi would not be enough for a 383. im just trying to get my truck running and i see a carb as the easiest way of doing that.

before you swap anything out, call Holley's tech service line and tell them whats going on, they should be able to help you tune it right.

from everything i have read the old analog projection is less than desirable. i have been trying to get it dialed in for well over a year. at best there is still a huge bog. it always hesitates. and i get really bad mpg.

Its a computer issue. The computer still thinks its a 350 so its not giving the 383 enough fuel.

congrats on the hard work. turned out nice
383 is awesome and staying old school with a carb is cool too in my book.
looks great!!!

Call Holley and tell them what engine it's on. They WILL help.
We had a 4.0 projection unit on a sammi rock buggy,1.3. It ran like a raped ape BECAUSE we worked with Holley.
Call them.

its not a problem with the computer thinking the engine is still a 350. that would make it run lean. but its way rich. when i had it in another truck we tried calling holley and we could not get it running right. i have not heard anyone that really liked the old pro jection. maybe the digital one that they have now would work. but this is the analog system that was bought in 1990. i didnt really plan on this being a thread trying to fix my projection. i already have one of those:wink1: but thank you guys for always being such great help.

I agree with ditching the projection. My Q-jet runs better while wheeling than any of the projection setups I have seen.

Good looking truck, BTW :thumb:

thanks. you cant really tell in those pictures. but i only got 3 of my tires. the right front is still sitting on a factory sized spare:haha:

sweet rig...i did the carb swap on my 90 k5 and loved it...til i blew a head gasket...oh well...new motor time...
