Some progress (dovetailed)

Glad to hear the guy will be ok. They make seat belts for a reason though and i'm guessing he wasn't wearing his?

It sounds like they all were wearing seatbelts. He was in the back seat on the passenger side and by the looks of the cab/cage that corner took a hard hit. The guy that built the cage does nice work, held up real well considering they rolled multiple times and the 3 other passengers only had some bruises from the belts.

So on the way home from wheeling I got these horrible vibrations from the 205. I am going to look at it tomorrow and try and isolate where they are coming from. The shifters were shaking really bad in the cab. Weird since it was great on the trip to go wheeling, horrible on the way home. Driveline was tight, adapters were snug to the crossmember. Any ideas of what I should look at. It does it at any speed, that's what has me thinking it is somewhere in the cases.

You might try shifting the 205 to neutral and see if the noise goes away when you try and move it. That might at least isolate the noise to one case or the other. You might even be able to get under it while it's idling there and see where the noise is if it's still there. Just be careful if you do that!

Anybody know where I might be able to find gaskets that go between the SM465 and t-case adapter, and one that goes between the t-case adapter and 203? Tried 3 auto parts stores with no luck. One said dealer only, is this the case? Thanks for the help.

I'll bet my trans guy has them on the shelf and if not could get them for you. Have you tried your local trans shop yet?

Hey Scott,
A local shop had the one that goes between the 203, I just made my own for the 465-adapter.

New help needed:
I am looking to purchase a winch and was leaning towards the Warn xd900 since is is low profile and I want to mount it to my new front crossmember, kind of a hidden setup. I was comparing it to the m8000 and noticed the 8000 has a 4.8hp motor compared to a 4.6 in the 9000. Gearing looks to be the main difference which I do realize is a big deal. Could anybody explain the main differences between the two? I know I should buy the best I can afford and will probably end up with the xd9000, but there is a $300 difference so I wanted to find out from people that know about winches.

Thanks!

BAD ASS build and rig man. Welcome aboard. :waytogo:

Thanks for the props!

I am taking it in to get a cage and some rocker protection built for it hopefully this week. I did get the front 52's on a few weeks back, finally and took the truck over to my work to flex it out some but forgot the building keys so I couldn't get the forklift out. Tried it on the liftgate but it didn't really like all the weight on the one corner :-( I have only put about 50 miles on the front suspension but I like it, pushed the front axle up a bit and flexes real nice. This is at 30" height, stopped because didn't want to mess the liftgate up. It's nice to have the front do some work, those 6" lift springs didn't like to flex much.

I just saw this t-case support on Pirate and wanted to see what you guys thought of it. I'm thinking about making up something similar on mine. Bolts to the back of the 205 and has a bushing down on the crossmember.

Isn't that bushing aligned the wrong way?

EDIT: Let me clarify my thought...

The NP205 in low range generates a TON of torque which should attempt to rotate the housing around the rear output shaft. The front output would then presumably want to rotate either up or down (I can't remember which way the output shaft rotates) in reaction to that applied force.

If it were me, I'd want a brace that bolted as far out on the 205 as possible...maybe pick up the mounting holes on the front output somehow. The further out on the case you can bolt the brace the more effective it will be in resisting the torque that's trying to twist the housing (this is how the factory brace works BTW)... it's like using a longer lever vs. a shorter one.

I didn't imagine that the brace would be installed vertically. That seems silly when ground clearance is always critical... I'd be trying to lay it out horizontally and sneak it inside the passenger-side framerail so it wouldn't hang down lower than the 205 itself. At that point, the bushing would make more sense if it was rotated so the bolt would be horizontal with the ground.

A few pics from Hollister last Saturday. First trip with the front 52's and they are great offroad. Truck did awesome, the new stuff at the obstacle course is pretty cool also. All went well until the drive home when the fuel pump decided to take a crap. Sunday got a new one and runnin like a champ.

Glad you're liking the spring change. Thanks for the pics, I sure wish we had something like that park close to me!

dovetail

Decided to go ahead and dovetail the truck this weekend. Brought each side in 8 inches. I start school this week which will kill free time but I'll try to get some more pics up soon.
