Eek.
Eek, eek, eek. Situations like this make my skin crawl ....., also known as "what a difference a spit-shine makes." Yep, I track as many of these as I can find, and this is Chalet #0414, built in 7/76, which I first ran across in an April 2014 Boise Craigslist ad for $2800, as seen in the left-hand printout below. In May, it came up again in the same rattty shape strangely listed in Vale Oregon, for $3750. I'd missed the Craigslist ad for it, but had ran across the Google search results not long after the seller deleted it, and by doing a search using some of the ad words, I was able to get a printout from the Mitula.us classifieds aggregator site. Next, it popped up again in somewhat cleaner condition again in Boise a month later for $5500. From the photos I'd already gathered, it had older reupholstered dinette seats and van-style highback seats, later model wheels, and it was missing the passenger side set of interior cabinets. The particular tell-tale detail is whatever the black coating is on the front of the camper roof.
What do we have now? It's been fully cleaned up and likely dusted on the underside with black spray paint. The non-factory cab seats have been reupholstered again, in a somewhat authentic looking but still factory incorrect pattern, along with the dinette seats, and now it sports rally wheels (which should have been painted silver, not tan, if one is aiming to restore the thing to factory showroom-new appearance, which is where the collector car value in these things is).
Since it has apparently gone past the reserve amount, it may happen that the winning bidder will be pleased as punch to acquire the last Chalet on the planet ..... until he discovers how he could have gotten the identical vehicle for way less and still have saved a bundle of money by putting in the same spit-shine and 'upgrades' himself.
