Somebody tell me that chevy didn\'t put these in here.

I 1973 did chevy put 3" blocks under all four of the leaf springs? Its a 3/4 ton pickup. I told my buddy that they didnt do that and he should take them off the front but i just want to hear from everybody here.

Re: Somebody tell me that chevy didn\'t put these in here.

Most definitely NOT stock. Front blocks are way too dangerous to even consider driving around on! /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif

Re: Somebody tell me that chevy didn\'t put these in here.

arent zero rates blocks?

Re: Somebody tell me that chevy didn\'t put these in here.

zero rates bolt to the spring pack with the spring pack bolt....in effect making them just a really really short leaf.

Re: Somebody tell me that chevy didn\'t put these in here.

ok
couldnt you make a 3 inch zero rate?

or bolt blocks the same way

Re: Somebody tell me that chevy didn\'t put these in here.

Have you ever seen a 3 inch thick leaf ? nope. That tall block creates axle wrap. Having the 1 inch zero rate really doesn't add any real wrap, and by being bolted to the pack, it's not going to fly out...and if it does, you have bigger problems.
Tall blocks "could" be welded or bolted into place but the axle wrap would still be the issue. That wrap can break the leafs springs in many cases.

Blocks, you see now, blocks are bad mmmmmmmkaaayyyyyy?! Cuz on account if you're usin blocks on the front you could, you could cause an accident. Cuz blocks are baaaad, mmmmkkaaaayyyy???!

Just thought I'd doctor it up a bit.
Good luck to y'all in the future.

Tell your buddy to get those blocks out ASAP. Especially if they are aluminum, because with even mild wheeling the tit will sheer off, spit the block out, buckle the front end over and customize his fenders and doors. /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif

Seriously tho', blocks in front are a big no no! /forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif

Re: Somebody tell me that chevy didn\'t put these in here.

yes zero rates are blocks
spring center bolts break all the time
some put a lot of faith into a 3/8" unrated bolt because it is sold by ORD

Re: Somebody tell me that chevy didn\'t put these in here.

hah... front lift blocks are the devil.. but check this out.. at the dealership i work at.. we have an "accessories" department, and you guessed it, they install front lift blocks in superduties, toss a set of 35" bfg a/t's on it and mark it up 5 or 6 grand.. no matter how much i tell management its not safe, and probably illegal, they continue it, so once someone gets hurt and we get sued, ill have a new job as a "sir" aka management! /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

It is a grade 8 bolt, although I agree with you, I'm not sure exactly how I feel about having one up front yet.

We shall see.

Re: Somebody tell me that chevy didn\'t put these in here.

I was just looking at a stock centrebolt, no idea what ORD sends

Re: Somebody tell me that chevy didn\'t put these in here.

has anyone seen or experience a front block break away from a front axle? i am curious and want to see pics.

i agree blocks u front are a bad thing, but i do have zero rates currently without any issues on my front axle.

Re: Somebody tell me that chevy didn\'t put these in here.

I have to agree here, I have sheered a couple, but regaurdless if you have a centering pin in a pack or a 1 inch zero rate you are still pretty much screwed. As soon as it fails the axel can slid back causing the wheels to lock at a full right turn /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif

The 83, when it hit the pomtree had the same effect,I see the zero rate as a plus though if you moved the axel forward as it has a pin for the pack and a short pin for the zero rate to stay in place.

as for not moving the axel, if the pin breaks the zero rate can pop out, then you have a serious amount of movement, compared to a stock set up where the u-bolts might help ya out /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

at any rate it was one scary situation in the 83 /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Re: Somebody tell me that chevy didn\'t put these in here.

Many of the Ford factory blocks have cast-in eyelets that the u-bolts pass through and an enormous tumor on the side for a bumpstop. Fat chance these things ever slip out.
