something is wrong..

TBI probably runs something like 20* at idle, (TPI does) WITH the bypass wire connected. Disconnect the bypass, it should drop to 0.

Fix your check engine light.

The piston is at the top twice during the cycle.
Once on the combustion stroke, when creating compression to ignite the mixture,
and once on the exhaust stroke when evacuating the exhaust gas from the chamber.
I dont know if it would run at all if it was firing on the exhaust stroke.

Popping through the intake, and a marked lack of power suggests running lean to me... It gets better when you get past 1/2 throttle becuase it goes into power enrich mode -- Basically it ignores the O2 sensor, and just pours the fuel in.

Maybe go get a fuel pressure gauge, and make sure your fuel pump is up to snuff

the fuel pump is only like maybe a year old and plus if the fuel pump was going bad it wouldnt give me sufficeint fuel wide open throttle
