something new on the monster k5, EDIT AGAIN, MORE PROGESS PICS

Looks good. Regarding the comments about needing to beef it up for a winch, personally I would say it's perfectly the fine the way it is. Your setup has way more beef than most winch bumpers I have seen including my own (which has been in use for years with no issues).

lol, thanks guys,...
I stole the SPEED holes idea from another member on here, i was kinda going after a combo of ideas when i dropped it off at my buddy's fab shop. here arethe two bumpers that are kinda merged to make mine.

Are your body mounts original? If so, it's prolly time for urethane ones. I'm diggin' the bumper. :waytogo:

new poly mounts would make a world of difference.the original rubber ones are junk after 20 years.mine rides a lot nicer with the new mounts.

alright here are some pics that Eric, the guy who fabbed it up, took. I forgot to bring my camera cable home so i cant upload my pics but i will when i get back to my house where i go to school. Anyways, here is the updated painted version with the winch plate on and all welded up.

That's funny- I didn't know it was dome at Smash's shop- he is a regular on reno4x4.com
- ever hang out there?

I forgot to take pics of the crossmember details. You can see it here-

the bumper mounts are welded to a 2x3 tube that fits snugly between the frame rails, bolts go from the outside, through 3/8" plate/frame/3/8" mount. It actually "sucked" the frame straight again when tightened up. I built mine to use a hitch mounted winch so the receiver tube is welded to the bumper and crossmember.

Oh damn, i didnt realize you were from reno. I'm vantheman44 over on reno4x4 and therockgods.com.

Yea Eric is the one who built it up for me. He did an amesome job, and i hope to get my truck back in there soon to get my steering brace/track bar deal that we discussed built, and a sweet rear bumper and some sliders as well.

Anyways, that thing is tuff looking, thanks for posting up. I like the idea of the rigid piece between the mounting plates, I think i'm going to have Eric throw in a piece of tube between the two plates on the lower portions of them.

Funny stuff- we are neighbors..

Eric seems to do a good job, never heard a bad thing about him. I do all my own fab, im no expert but i get by.

i just built the bumper so i havent tested it yet but it should be plenty stout

Im misterfnygy on reno4x4 as well- its a good site but no real tech- i come here for that. Ever go on the runs with those guys?

yea i hear ya about the real tech stuff. All the info i have posted over there about 73-87(91) trucks, burbs, and k5's has all come from here. They all seem like a bunch of great people though, so hopefully i can meet up with some when then go wheeling. I havent gone on any of the trail runs with them yet, but i'm part of the sierra stompers, and i tag along sometimes with them since my rig isnt done yet. I hope to actually meet some more people out of the reno area to go wheeling with eventually.

Wow this is hilarious, I drive by Eric's shop twice everyday and I think it was Friday? (the 13th) I saw your stuff outside nearly stopped to see if it was you but didn't. He's sold me some tubing etc. Hella nice guy.

Sweet bumper, now go test it out!

Hey side note - what's the story with Jake from Sierra Stompers? Is he home from Malaysia?

Small world for sure! Yea i went and picked it up on the 14th. Eric is a way chill guy, and seems very stand up, not to mention he knows his stuff when it comes to the fabrication end of it.

As for jake, i believe his hotmail account got hacked and that was all spam, thats how i understood it anyway when i talked to him last. I'll give him a call and see if he ever set up a new account with another e-mail account and let you know.

I'm honored. :D I really like your bumper, more than mine actually.

thanks man, i tried to not copy the whole front piece but i just loved the idea of the speed holes, it mixes it up a little from all the other bumpers that have a solid skid, and looks killer IMO
