Just thought i'd bring this post back to the top with a little bit of good news...
I modified my 1.5" X 8" ram just like esteban did, putting a 3" spacer inside to limit it to 5" of travel for hi-steer. Thanks for the tip on that Esteban!
So last weekend i was out wheeling and of course my hydro ram decided to start pissing fluid out of the end instead of just dripping a lot like usual. I guess the seal finally gave out.. The only bad thing is with no ram i get crazy deathwobble... So i ended up topping off my power steering fluid about 5 or 6 times to make it home from my trip.
When i got home, i put on my spare ram, but that one leaked too... so kinda pissed off i started taking one apart figuring there's no way i can make it leak any more than it is... Well i took it apart and found the seals with chunks out of them... when i measured the seals there were a lot in the mcmastercarr catalog.. before i placed an order, just for the hell of it I went over to Home Depot, and found the correct 1 1/2 OD O-ring that i needed.. There is also a flat rubber backing kind of as a support next to the oring.. I made this out of a 1 1/2" diameter 3/16" thick rubber fender washer.. then cut the rubber washer until it was about 1/8" wide all the way around just like the oring..
Now heres the trick.. when i tried installing the seals and dabbing them with some ATF or powersteering fluid, the seals still ripped when re-installing it.. so i had to get another set of orings.. this time i ran a nice bead of grease all the way around the oring so it slipped right in and didn't rip or tear the seal.
Hooked it up and bled the system... Hasn't leaked one drop yet... Fixed that damn leak with a couple of $0.99 o rings that are pretty common.
From now on, i'll rebuild my own ram thanks. If any of you guys need some tips on this feel free to pm me.
