I was poking around the burban today and noticed how there's alot more room between the firewall and distributor compared to my blazer. And I remember when I put the doubler in. It would hit the underside of the body if I tried to put it where I wanted it. I'm pretty sure this is from my frame being bent up. So my the top of my distributor was very close to the body. From the drive train being angled down to clear body/doubler. Now that I'm putting a 5.3/6.0 in....Im worried the motor will hit the fire wall...how much room is there between the very back of motor and firewall? Pics would be great. If you got a th400 would really be helpful

It was so close to the firewall that the 2 back plug wire boots rubbed at times. No matter what I'm making it work whether drive drain is pushed up or cuting into firewall if need be.

when I put a 5.2 in the 2wd build ( link below with pics ) I set the motor back 1.25" and still had firewall room .

you check body and motor mount bushings ?

Hows the angle of your trans pan in relation to the frame? Maybe the back of the drivetrain needs to be raised up more?

Your tranny choice shouldn't make a difference here. They are all basically the same size as far as bellhousings go. Don't the mounts slide allowing you to adjust stuff?

My 6.0L almost touches the firewall from the back of the heads. I put the engine into the stock location and I have a 3" body lift.

I'm not sure at the moment. I have it all taken out. It was just the top of dist. That rubbed. I'll see of I can dig up some pics

Couldnt find any pics, but I can't move up the rear of drivetrains much more. I can't even put my fingers between the 205 and body

The body bushings are good, I got the cage tied to the frame. I'm thinking my front half of frame is bent up. Or from boxing the front frame and welding motor mount triangles cause a shift in evetything. But measuring from burb compared to where dist. Was in blazer its about 1 3/8"-1 1/2" differance

Here's how the trick sits now. I also noticed the drivers side frame rail sits almost a inch higher then the right. Not sure if this has anything to do with it. But the body is a 81 and frame is 79. But if any of you guys get a chance, shoot some pics of back of motor and firewall plz. What's the tallest point of 6.0 compared to the top of dist.?

Bringing this back, just got the trans in. Looks like I might run into some clearance issues from what I seen from searching. My trans is a about a inch further back then trans in burban. I'm really hoping I'm wrong. Should have the motor this wknd

When i did my swap i started with a blank framw rail. i would guess my engine is 1.5 inches forward. i can lay on top of the core support and easily get the top half of the bell housing with a long wrench.

Nice, I didn't even realize how far my motor moved back. I know I had the frame mounts out. But I guess I didn't realize how far they moved back, or my frame is so bent/tacoed..... :dunno: I know driver side front frame rail is 1 inch higher then the passenger side. :doah:found that when I was mounting my shocks and bump stops.

So o I got my motor, and was able to test fit it..and it barely clears. Passenger side coil pack stud rubs and the head does too where the floor bonds to fire wall. But I think a little massageing and a little bit of :grind:it will fit. But I need to figure out some adjustable motor mounts so I can slide motor back about 1". With the current motor mounts its 1" to far forward.

Dang, mine isn't anywhere near that tight against the firewall.

I didn't get a tape out but I've got a few inches between the engine and firewall. You can see that I can easily reach the back of the engine.

There close to 3" between the drivers side cylinder head and the firewall.

Holy moly. I'm jealous! I'm going to try and wallow out all the tcases cross member holes and try to move it forward some. There's no way I can access the back of motor.

It's worth mentioning that I built my own crossmembers and I'm using a 2wd 4l80e with a custom built adapter. Even with where the engine is at my t-case is almost 3.5" back from the original location.
