spare tire mount ideas

1985 K5, used to get up on hood to wash the windshield. Installed clearance lights on the hood by standing on windshield in mah boots. 0 damage, but paint was trashed anways so I propably did scratch it. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
1990 GMC F/S Jimmy. Spread a fleece blanket out on my hood, and splayed my legs out (on knees) with no boots on to install these lights on my Jimmy. When I got off it looked like river dance had performed on my hood, but no scratches.
1972 Chevelle. Dropped a 31x10.5x16 rim/tire combo on the hood about 1 foot because I lost my footing, no damage. I use it to hold down a non-fitting car cover, only thing I've found that works. It's a 4 door for sale ($500) if anyone wants one. /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif

I'm not sure if the 1990 has an aftermarket hood, or if the DOT was such a bitch they made the hood out of thinner metal to help with MPG's.... /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

I plan on getting one of those with a mount for a warn 12000lb winch also to mount a 44x19.5x16.5 bogger spare tire for my burb/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif Daniel does some fine work.
 
i run a homemade prerunner style, that also works as my CB antenna mount and rear facing spot light mount. i just welded the nuts to the underside of the bed, so all you have to do is unbolt it.. heck if you happen to have to haul anything, it comes out easy and you can just atrap it ontop of anything that you are hauling.. besides i dont usually haul too many things unexpectedly...

i personnally like the prerunner type look,but it does take up a lot of the bed space.a swing out tire carrier would look the same on a pickup as it does a blazer with the top off.if you make the bumper so that the tire carrier is down low enough it will look fine and not be a pita to look out your rearview.i am going to hopefully build one similar to steves for my blazer.
 
yeah i spose keeping it at bedrail height or close would be better. the blazers have a pretty large rear area to work with compared to a truck rear /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif
 
Whatever you do, be sure and have an assembly that can handle the weight of the tire & wheel. Mine broke going down the road the other day. It was made for a 35" but has had 39.5's on it for a while and just wore out. It snapped at the grease fitting. I will be going with the DP version when I find out cost. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
 
how large of a tire-wheel combo is the dp good for? also is it a bumper mount or do you have to have a blazer to use it? thanks! /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif lonnie

Mine is built to carry a 42, give him the dimensions of the desired tire (mounted) and he can build the carrier to match.

The carrier mounts to the bumper itself so it should work on a pick up just fine. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif
 
get a headache rack with the diamond mesh and bolt it up to that. thats what i got on my 81 flatbed chevy farm truck /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif
 
above the cab looks ok, but overhead clearance is an issue. not only an issue with trail obstacles but my garage has a 8ft door so i with my lift and 35's i can make it but a 12.5" tire and the bracket that would require above the cab. i wouldn't be able to pull it in to work on the concrete floor thanks for the input! anybody else have any thoughts? /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif
