Hey guys.

My first post on this forum. =+)

Anyway I'm currently running a set of Moroso wires on my 85 GMC.

Moroso 73607 - Moroso Ultra 40 Race Ignition Wire Sets
(wont let me post URL's yet, sorry)

My problem is that my header recently melted one of these wires at the intersection of the boot, to the wire itself, (they don't appear well shielded in that spot, and no it wasn't touching the header). Also a few other of the cables show mild heat damage on the jacketing, so I'm hestiant to buy a second set. (They aren't cheap.)

Anyway, I'm thinking about changing out to metal jacketed cables from Taylor.

Taylor Cable 91017 - Taylor Street Series Full Metal Jacket Ignition Wire Sets

My question is does the metal jacketing really provide better protection, than the Moroso? There doesn't appear to be any heat rating for these Taylor cables that I can find, whereas the Moroso quote 600 degrees. Additionally the metal jacketed cables seem to require a ground kit be installed, and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with these cables / installing the ground kit? (Is it really needed?)

Any advice, on which is the better wire set?

Thanks
Jason

I'd try a set of fiberglass high heat boot protectors from Taylor before dropping the coin on those metal jacketed ones. Just slip em over the boots on your normal plug wires.

Thanks guys.

I have to replace the current Moroso set regardless, and according to Summit the metal jacket Taylor costs the same, as the Moroso set I'm replacing.

It seems a lot of guys don't like Accel wires for one reason or another, but I love them. I've even had great luck with the cheapo Super Stocks. I've used them on a lot of my cars and trucks (the 8.8's too), and only burned one boot so far, and it was wedged right against a primary for a while.

X2 on the Taylor spiro pro. I have them on My Blazer and Mustang for many years Both have headers. Taylors hold up well to heat.

Yeah cut to fit MSD 8mm are F'ing invulnerable to heat...
i just use the standard small block angled head plug wire from msd.every chevy ive ever had i put em on and never have had a problem with melting.2 out of 3 had headers.

you wont go wrong with a Taylor or MSD wire.....

Accel and Moroso where kinda living on their name for a long time, but may have improved in recent yrs idk....
