simple enough. im running a mild built 350 with stock HEI and an accel super coil, and delco plugs. i need to get custom length wires and i was wondering whats the best wire to go with without breaking the bank (really wasent looking at spending 90 bucks for msd wire) i wanted better than stock but it doesnt have to be to crazy.

I used Accel Superstock wires. $30. Do not buy the $20 Accel crimpers. It is a piece of junk. Buy something good. If you have a vise or big channel locks like I did.

It crimped much better than others for the money, $8.

now i was looking at the resistance ratings and the accels have 500ohms per foot for their SuperStock Spiral Core 5000 Series 8mm at $52 bucks at from summit. but then the MSD wires have only 40-50 ohms per foot for their 8.5mm $90 buck wires. im thinking are those worth the money? after handling charges it probably gonna be like $60 bucks from summit and the MSD wires are in stock here at auto zone. would those MSD wires be over kill on motor?

Why do you need custom length?

I swear by the Accel 8.8's, the yellow ones and the more expensive black ones. I've got them on five or six cars/trucks and they even last a good while. The same set has been on my S10 for over 70K.

Also, put a set of Superstocks on my Impala 9 years ago, they are OK (still on there). They were custom length and I just crimped them with regular wire crimpers, wasn't that hard.

I like the Jacobs wires, had them on my other burb for over 8 yrs with no problems. I also had their so called better ignition system and coil and it took a $hit after 3 yrs. Was supposed to give me 4 more MPG but the best I ever got was 11. So I guess that meant I would only get 7 without it.

Taylor are the best wires I have found. They are all I run on my hot rods.
Just as good as MSD. Half the price. They hold up to heat very well.

yes, highest resistance as possible , well worth the money in the long run

well they way im running them, they are gonna come off the dizzy, run along the back side of the valve cover and then alone the side right above the headers kinda like the pic shows and the pre made wires i have looked at are either gonna be to short for certain cylinders or way to long.

Dude! You so have it backwards.

Do some research on Ohm's law iirc and come back.

C4, I like det-cord for those "stubborn" fasteners.

are you telling me that or C4? i remember from school that you want the least amount of resistance as possible thats why i was wondering if its worth it to spend the extra probably $20 or $30 for the msd because they are 40-50ohms. i saw a set of accel blacks today in auto zone, custom length ones for $80 that were 150ohms then the MSD's are $90 for 40-50 ohms

NEED HELP!! something a little different

91 350TBI won't fire. Has run great in the recent past. There is a SINGLE WIRE coming off of the coil with a BLACK rectangular terminal that goes ???? it doesn't reach the distributor and ther is no wire hanging down underneath that I could see that it would of been connected to.

All of theis happened as I was changing (or removing) the thermostat.

I live in North Fl. I do not need a heater trust me.

thermostat is more than just for your heater, its what keeps your engine at proper temp and allows it to run effecient. without the proper one, or one at all your in for a world of hurt. as for the coil, if its in the coil it should be the ground wire if its really short, but i have no clue why you would have even messed with the dizzy when changing a thermostate, dizzy is in the rear the thermostate is in the front:dunno:

and not to sound like an ass you might get better responses if you start your own thread about your problem. people are looking at this thread to help me pick spark plug wires, but if you started your own about what you need help with, than you will get more responses about you specific problem:wink1:

thats the nicest way i can think of to say dont hijack:wink1::D

Thanks for the help and the advice

Thanks for the help and the Advice. I will replace the thermostat, that was bad advice from somewhere else. I probably disconnected the ground taking the breather off so I could get to the thermostat.

Sorry for the Hi Jacking

Hijack on:D
The single wire that comes off your coil is for a tachometer. If you dont have a tach it should not be hooked up to anything.
You must have a thermostat of at least 180 for TBI to operate properly.
hijack off...........

Altho less resistance is good it really does not make that much of difference in a mild build engine. The stock GM ignition will crap out long before a spark plug wire in good condition will.
My main concerns for a 4x4 wire is. That it is a good strong wire and boots that will hold up to the heat from my headers. Plus the beating, abuse, water, mud, ect they will see off road. Also not interfere with electronics like my Stereo.
That is why I like Taylor spyro pro wire.

were do you pick up this tool? local parts store or do you have to order it?

I've got some accels on my truck, been there 4 or 5 years, no signs of coming apart. Crimped them with regular wire crimpers, but it took some effort to make sure they stayed on.

IMO those resistance numbers are all hype. Otherwise you'd be seeing similar numbers with OEM stuff.

The important thing is to keep them as far away from heat and abrasion as possible.
