Hello All!

Names Richie, from Ada OK. I Have a 77 K5 (mostly stock) I'm thinking of switching back to stock manifolds, my headers are trashed. Like most with headers I have replaced the starter repeatedly( I know i could use heat tape and will if i stay with headers). But the main reason is, its a real pain to pull the spark plugs. Is this a common problem with sb chevy headers or do I have some wierd ones (I'm sure they were not made for a 4x4, they made contact w/ the drive shaft and crushed the collector).

So, any help would be appreciated

You get headers for the power and thats about it. Yes, cast manifolds make it easier to do just about everything in the engine bay. I was going to switch back, but wasnt sure if I would be able to get the longer bolts that came with my stockers. I just got a free pair of ceramic coated headers and just installed them, otherwise I was thinking of making the switch myself back to the ole log. Youll lose power going back and youll have to redo the collector area, no biggie, any muff shop can square it away. down the road I still may go back to OEM manifold. The sparkplugs can be a PITA and trying to get the headerbolts in and out can be as well. I have better luck with the passenger side than the drivers side, alot of crap in the way.

If you have air, its the worst. But with the proper tools, (swivel head ratchet, and wobble head extensions, and short plug socket, it's not as bad. just have to decide what you want. If you only run low rpm, go for small tube headers (1-1/2), to help torque. big tube (1-3/4)are only good for alot of 5000rpm and up usage.

A lot of people complain that headders trash they plug wires, starters and such i havent had any problems with my headders, used headder wrap in the section where i know plugs can get torched and thats it. no mayor stuff

Hi,
I tossed my headers, and went back to manifolds. I have seen no real difference on my 73. I say go for it. You can always go back to new headers if you really hate it!

cheers!
