the other gear piece for mine is metal not plastic, have anyone seen those or is this diff from stock?

wow 28 bucks

pull the yoke / seal retainer / inner big roller bearing . then slide the gear out . with out pulling rear section off.

I have seen mostly yellow or some red in the 205's I have torn in to .

I just pulled a 203 apart and it had a red .

click this LINK and scroll threw for full tear down and rebuild of a 205 with tons of pics . it will give you a idea on how easy it is . POST # 22 and 23 show what you need to see.

let me know what gear you need I hook ya up if you don't need it same day .

thanks i will have the money net Friday for it just want it to work again.
dont want to pay the mech 400 bucks to fix it

no one in town can get it or wants to get it they want to rebuild it or they wont touch em. i only wanted the gear not a rebuild i dont thing it needs one yet. and rebuilds dont come with it you have to buy the gear separate.

yep gear separate . . .

do you know for sure its a plastic gear ? early 205 had a metal one . I have both style .

and these 205 t-cases are a great 1st timer unit to do and learn on . I had never done one but got mine done real easy with all the info I posted at the end of that link I posted up in here .

I prob even got a spare rear seal retainer to housing gasket . I will try and dig out what I got in the next few days .

i have a gasket kit i got from cobra transmission to the door it was 35 bucks so i dont need that.
and i dont know if i t is metal or not i have to pull it apart to tell i am going to do that sunday.
then ill let you know, thanks i appreciate it.

there is a vid on youtube where a guy pulls on down and rebuilds it and it doesnt look that bad. a transmission is harder than a transfer case. i watched the teardown still watching the rebuild. here is the vids i found below 1-4

it is a 1977 model transfer case i know that cause when i rebuilt the transmission the little tag said nov 1977
i am going to write down all the info on that tag today

do you remember what size the socket is for the speedo gear retainer is?I have to go buy one I dont have that size

I thinking I used a 29mm and had to grind the tip down just a hair to make it clear the housing machined area .

you might be able to work the gear out/off with out pulling the speedo drive .

ok i just dont have big sockets anymore they walked before i had my big tool box that locks and im slowly replacing them.thank you again

next time im at the car wash im going to slide under and degrease that thing it nasty

It's a standard red plastic chevy gear. 1970-72ish use the metal gear (and 90-91 vss). Dodge and Ford use different colors, different tooth count (white and yellow). No need to pull the case, just take the yoke, seal retainer and bearing off like mentioned. I probably have a gear in the parts bin if you can't find one.

im going to take it back apart and make sure the gear will spin the cable make sure thats not whats wrong

well it spins the cable like it is saposed to but the red gear dont spin the metal one

? stick your finger in the speedo hole and try and move the red gear .

I wonder if someone put a newer gear in on a older metal gear style shaft . . . .

if so I have the metal ones also .

and just a fyi : I want to know what the end problem is . . . . my 88 th400/205 combo I swapped in my plow truck years ago don't work . I did cable / good used tested speedo unit . just never took apart the case back yet to figure out why . so your my test mule

well i stuck a drill to the cable and the box reducer thing and they both spin the speedo up like its sapose to,
so the only thing i can think of its the red gear thats bad. the metal gear looks fine the red one looks funny
