Speedo gear inside transfer case?

well i put the housing in the gear reducer then on the end of the speedo and put the metal gear on it and spun it and it free spins so it is not the red gear it is the metal one the end that has the cable go into it stripped out see photos.
ifyou put the gear on it without the housing it spins the cable

? stick your finger in the speedo hole and try and move the red gear .

I wonder if someone put a newer gear in on a older metal gear style shaft . . . .

if so I have the metal ones also .

and just a fyi : I want to know what the end problem is . . . . my 88 th400/205 combo I swapped in my plow truck years ago don't work . I did cable / good used tested speedo unit . just never took apart the case back yet to figure out why . so your my test mule :popcorn:
it has the plastic red gear inside and there isnt anything wrong with it it is the metal gear that goes inside the housing that is bad

learn something new every day, who would have thought the metal gear would strip on the inside

sent you pm . but same hear .

so you need the speedo drive thingy that threads in the tail housing .

let me go digging .
