I have a 6.0L in my 91 K5 and have all autometer gauges except my speedometer. I found the VSS output wire in the 6.0L drivetrain harness but am actually having a harder time finding the wire on the 91 instrument connector harness. I'm looking at a diagram that lists the coolant temp, oil pressure, fuel etc... but no speedo??? Does my diagram suck? Any help on the wire color? Should be the same for all the electric speedo's in the later k5's.

This link may even be to my page, I can't get there from here. Hopefully the link is still good:

Should show the wire that runs up to the IP connector.

If that doesn't work, just remove the cluster, and flip it over. Only three leads go to the speedometer...power, ground, and signal. Power and ground should be obvious, as they would just join into the common power and ground of the PCB. The signal "wire" then, would run all by itself to the PCB/IP connector, and you'd just match that up to the IP connector. This is assuming you have the cluster still. Which you can sell to me cheap, if you don't need it. lol :)

Also, if you don't have the cluster, find the DRAC, which is the flat, square white box with provisions for two flat connectors on one end. Believe it's under the dash near the column. Only one wire will run up to the IP connector. Will see the twisted pair that come from the VSS on the t-case, one to ECM, one to cruise if present, and one to IP connector for speedometer. There are a fair number of unused outputs on the DRAC, as long as you pick the right one (how many pulses per mile do you need?) you could run it straight from the DRAC, if using it.

All I need is the wire color. I have no use for the factory wires comming from a transfer case that is long gone (6.0L 4L80E 241C). I'm just going to snip the wire on the instrument cluster connector and use the wire from the vortec harness meant for the speedo. Just need to know the color. This will be easier than trying to hard wire it to the speedo itself. I have the full cluster and will only be using the speedo. All the rest is autometer, already wired, already working.

Well if the link in my above post works, it should clearly show the color of the speedometer wire that comes off the DRAC, which is what you'd cut.
