i like to have a good range of tools at hand and i figure if its worth doing get the correct one and be done with it. so last week i ordered a snap-on ima283 7/8 allen hex driver for 1" drive.

now i can do my king pin dana 60 axles with easy. and at work i also have a 1" drive impact and breaker bars and also a tourqe wrench that goes to 600 ft lb .

the fit of the allen driver to the king pin is super nice and snug fit. no play at all realy.

well now the size comparison pics for all to look at.

#1 = new spicer king pin
#2 = snap-on tool
#3 = both side by side

bought the same focker for mine last year..:haha:

3/4 drive iirc, think it ran me like $70...

Looks beefy. For the application though, woudln't it be better if the bit was shorter? or does it fit snug enough that it doesnt' really matter?

I'll lay odds that the first time you try to use it to remove a stubborn king pin that LONG 7/8" allen is going to twist.

I bought a 3/4" drive impact socket and a 7/8" allen wrench then cut a piece of the allen wrench so that is was no longer the what was needed to be fully seated in the socket and enough to fit completely into the king pin then i cut it off and pinned it to the socket.

will find out if it twists. if so new free replacement bit and then before use cut down to flush seat length .

and yes it fits super nice in the king pin.

will find out in a few weeks or so. i have a set to do on 1 axle and friend has a set to do on his axle. then i might do a set on my plow truck some day.

when i was getting ready to do my king pins... i was wow where would i find one of them, i called around and nothing...so i called my grand father(he buys tools just to buy em) and he said i picked a few up in the summer but they are 3/4-1 inch drive..come over and take a look.....i was thinking no way..there it was in the tool box, i laughed, he said if it works for u keep it...ill never need it....i took it and removed the roll pin and put a deep impact socket over it, a lil heat and my 1/2 ir and job done.........then put the roll pin in and gave it back...sorry for the long story...
