SPG Toolbox...Build

Darren was buying 2 seperate sets, one SAE and one metric. We all know that a 10mm and 3/8" are close and will "sometimes" work either way and also that 13mm and 1/2", 14mm and 9/16" the same but there really is no reason to leave out a common wrench. I can see why lots of sets don't have the 11mm and 16mm wrenches but a 16mm is becoming more of a common wrench as well. When I buy tools I want EVERY wrench size available from the smallest to around at least the 1" or equivelant metric.
8mm &5/16"
11mm &7/16"
14mm &9/16" extremely close
16mm &5/8"
19mm &3/4"
Those are equivalent, the rest you mentioned are off enough you should not be using them for the other size.
I didn't go bigger than 19mm because at that point if you are a little off a little play will still work without rounding off the nut.
I agree if you are buying seperate sets you should have them included, and the sets of Craftsmans I bought before from Sears had all the sizes, and I liked it for that.
It went all the way to 1 1/8"
Now I got me some bigger ones all the way up to 3" from HF, with these sizes HF quality works good enough.

I use the proper tool for the job so it's a moot point for me but maybe other people use improper tools for the job. It's too easy to buy the correct tool or borrow one if you can't afford one or if it's a one time use thing. Me personally, if I don't have a tool and there is a need for one I just buy it then I have it for the next time (if there is a next time).

Darren, my SAE set now contains up 1 5/16". :thumb:

Thats cause you are a badass. I will go broke trying to compete with your tools :doah:

That being said, the set i'm trying to buy is complete up to 1 5/16" and 32mm. :D

Look who you're telling this to...
I guess I need a new thread, My tools chaos...
I not only have the right tool for every job I had to do, but sometimes I couldn't find the tool I already had because I am so organized that I went and bought another, and another...:doah:
Yeah.
:pimp:

I wasn't pointing fingers at you, I was just saying that there's alot of people who either can't afford the proper tools or they improvise for the few times they might need a certain tool.

Play nice guys :haha:

Received the complete, 6pt, laser etched socket set, and ordered the big Metric/Standard combination wrench set.

Pissed i had to pay shipping on the wrenches, but the store doesn't carry them...and too impatient to wait for the free shipping sale.

Also picked up the big ass screwdriver set.

Pics to come when i get the box , and set it all up!

Darren, I have a bunch of Craftsman screw drivers that I bought years ago and then I have a Snap-on 8 piece set that I bought probably about 10 years ago and then just late last year I bought Snap-on's newest line of screw drivers call instinct grip and those my friend are THE BEST screw drivers i've ever used. I bought the 6 piece set (since I rarely if ever use the stubby screw drivers) and I paid just under $100. If you use screw drivers alot you might think about buying a set.

Scott,
Thanks for the tip. I'm going to stick with the craftsman set i bought. For $50, i got a set that includes the basics, torx, and some of the BIG stuff i'll rarely use. Truthfully, i've been wrenching with the same $10 HF level of Stanley screwdrivers for as long as I can remember. I think it was a 4 pack....and really, the phillips tip is still in decent shape.

Stoked to be stepping up to the craftsman for this tool set, but really trying to keep things reasonable for what i'll use them for.

Almost avoided the set with the BIG screwdrivers, but for the $10 difference, fell into the "buy it once, buy it right" category.

you can never have too many pry bars.

now just get a nice framing hammer and you'll be set... :thumb: :haha:

I've had my eye on a good set of prybars....but trying to stop the initial round of tool purchases for this box.

At least temporarily.

I finally broke down and bought a 4 piece set of Snap-on strikable prybars, they weren't cheap but will last forever and so far they have paid for themselves with the use I get out of them.

Hm, never heard of strikeable ones....im guessing the tool continues all the way to the back of the handle, so you can hit it?

Have a link?

All of snap on prybars are built that way now. Yes there's a large metal button on the end of the handle thats linked to the shaft. I also bought 2 of the 48s must be two years ago now, when they were on sale. Invaluable.

Wrenches in my box go up to 2" :screwy:

And I've got a wrench snipe for the big ones, worth its weight in gold. No double wrenching.

Please explain this statement to the newb. What the heck is a wrench snipe?

Are you leading me on a snipe hunt?

Hang on. I'll.go.get a picture of the elusive snipe. And the prybars too.if you want. Ima good old fashioned picture whore.

It's a tool you put on the wrench to extend the leverage instead of double wrenching like us poor folk.:thumb:
