Spicer P/n for 35 spline stubs

Ya, its not a bad idea to have a weak point. But there are some guys around that are building for ultimate strength in there truck and opt for the slugs since they are stronger.

It depends on which school of thought you follow. Build a weak point in or build it to the max and hope it doesn't break and fix whatever does, or somewhere in between. Its all an individual choice.

With my 10 bolt front I don't have to worry about it. /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif I just try and carry enough parts to rebuild the whole damn axle since it is a gamble on what is going to go. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I think we are speaking more about street use where the pavement is generally pretty grippy and you are usually at a higher speed.

If you are using Spicer stubs, they WILL be the weak point. With hubs, the stubs should last. Now if you had some higher dollar stubs with slugs, you shouldn't really have a "weak" point, just a matter of what point is weakest.

I don't really think so. I think that if the stubs and the inner shafts are the same strength, who knows where the weak point might be, but I doubt that it's the stub shaft. I'd say it's probably the inner shaft if anything because it is longer. Or the u joint.

I don't find my steering objectionable without the ram. Only reason I'm going with the ram is to take the stress off the frame.

If I hadn't bought the crossover this year I'd just go full hydro.

We have fairly good evidence to show that the weak link in the 35 spline spicer stuff will be the stub shaft if the wheels are pointed straight and the u joint if they are turned very much.
I personally have yet to see a D 60 inner break while using spicer stuff.

Fred (FWP) just did this swap on his 60. He had a set of OE spicer 30 spline hubs borached to 35 spline. The warn hubs are made from a crappy grade of steel IMO. The other option is to use moser 30 spline alloy stubs with stock hubs. The moser 30 spline stubs show the same strength numbers as the spicer 35 spine (give or take a little)

annybody have a link for the red neck ram guys, i think i should buy the 2wd box with the holes tapped for the hydro, need to know how much it is
thanks,
dale

That's good to hear. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif Mine are stock, non-neckdown shafts right now.
