Has anyone ever split the case on an IFS differential? I got the bolts out and I have it about a half inch apart and then something keeps it together. What else is holding it from coming apart? I think the passenger side output shaft is broke and I am trying to investigate more. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Just curious, why do you think the shaft is broke?

I can spin the driveshaft and hold the gear on the output shaft and the driveshaft still spins. It's either broke or the splines are bad on it or the spider gear.

You know there's a shift fork used to engage the front differential, right? So you should be able to freely spin the driveshaft without causing the ring gear to turn.

Yep, you have to be sure that the gears are engaging.

The shift fork has nothing to do with your ring gear. The shift fork slides a geared collar that connects the gear on the output shaft and the passenger axle. The ring and pinion and carrier is setup basically the same as a regular axle. I just don't know how to get the case completely split.
