It's been so nice here the last two weeks or so, I spent the afternoon doing the spring cleaning on my '83 C1500 pick-up. Snapped a couple of pic's too...

Nice truck. I've never been one to like those big mirrors though. Still yet it looks a hell of alot better than mine :D

The cool thing is it's all 100% original, and there isn't much that doesn't work. The AC needs a charge, the cruise needs one vacuum line repaired and the volt gauge doesn't work. The interior is easily as nice as the outside. 25 mpg on the highway is nice too (6.2 diesel)...it means I get to drive it 'just because' rather than only when needed.

Randy, I'm not a big fan of the camper mirrors either, but as it sits my alternative is to remove them, bolt up some regular mirrors and have to deal with the holes in the doors. I may do that at some point, but only once I have some cash set aside for the body work and paint to get it back to good again.

We had our share of snow this year, for the first time in recent memory we had snow on the ground here for almost a month. Then we got our normal winter monsoon weather which gets on my nerves more than snow does. About two weeks ago things dried up, got sunny and just sorta stayed that way. It's been mid 50's during the day which is T-shirt weather...damn nice for February!! I'm sure we'll get one more stretch of crap weather before spring is officially here. I am certainly doing my best to enjoy what we got now though.

Thanks for the kind words guys!

It's only pretty because the "last guy" babied it for 10 years.........

Looks awesome, Rene. It's nice to see someone taking as much pride in the truck as I did!!! :thumb:

Credit where credit is due...you did take great care of it.:bow:

I'm thinking of converting it to 4 wheel drive, bit of fender trimming, 42's, bob the bed a little, maybe taper the front a little...

j/k :p: :p:

Wow man, really nice rig. I can hardly believe chevs like that exist in canada.

I've only personally seen two as nice as yours, and one was owned by an old war vet who only drove it in august.... I want his truck sooo badly.

.......

Wait, I've only seen one unmolested chev in canada that's as nice as yours... hahaha:haha::haha:

Yep....That was the first thing I changed when I got mine.
I`ve been trying to get rid of them for over a yr now :haha:

Come out to B.C....

It's not like they're common in this condition, but i can honestly say I've seen 6 or 7 different pick-ups in this shape just in the last couple of months. Pretty much all 2wd too. The 4x4 versions get used for a lot more winter driving and most of them are having rust issues.

i'm just noticing this drunk so bear with me please. The drivers side door and cab corner need some different trim. sorry to bring this up but it's just one of them things that'd bug me :dunno:

IMO i'm growing on GMC making the better looking truck. Maybe i'm biased now that i have one :dunno:

When I bought the truck, Paul was gracious enough to include about 50 feet of replacement trim. I just haven't gotten around to taking the old stuff off and putting the new stuff on yet. If the weather keeps up I might do that this weekend.

As for the GMC vs. Chevy in the looks department...I've always liked the GMC styling better than the Chevy. The grill is most of it. For whatever reason I always end up with the GMC version of whatever I happen to be buying. I've had 10 GM trucks of one description or another and at least 7 were GMC's.

Rene

awesome!! I'd love to see it finsihed with all the trim. :D

I used to be one of the GMC haters'. I'd take out the grille for the bowtie. I've learned to love the GMC i have now even though it's only been a few months

I seriously miss my 2wd :( here's a pic. this was the first truck i ever drove...

That looks like it was in very nice shape Randy. What year was it, and why don't you still have it?

The whole 2WD thing is growing on me. The hardest thing for me is to not modify this truck any...it just goes against the grain. I use this truck as my commuter, and for yard/house stuff. It's a lot more practical for trips to Home depot than the mini-van.

My pick-up and my Jimmy are jeckyl and hyde. One is smooth, quiet, civilized, bone stock and 2wd, the other is none of the above. :p:

it was an 84 and i'm seriously lookin into another one. the reason for not having it is my father. He decided it was a good idea to sell me a cheap car then sell the truck i was driving
I didn't want to but it wasn't actually mine. I only paid $200 on it

I got over that then i bought my first Blazer which made me very happy :D being 4wd made me even more so hehe

I'm keeping my eye out though. I want another "going to the store" truck and it's what i'm gonna get

Paul sold me the '83 for $1000, which was the 'good friend' price. It did have one known issue and one other issue that hadn't been figured out when I got it. The known issue was the heater core was toast. Paul included a new core, a gallon of anti-freeze, new hoses and clamps though (that's just how Paul is...)

The unknown issue was a cooling issue where occassionally it would barf up a bunch of coolant out the overflow tank. Not always, and no real rhyme or reason to it. We both postulated it may have head gasket issues...but it did run fine when I picked it up.

2 months after I got it home it started smoking a bunch from one pipe on start up, then hydro-locked on me a few days later. I ended up tearing it down, replacing the head gaskets, added ARP head studs and a new water pump and it's been great ever since.

I do need to do the exhaust though. Prolly a pair of 3" chambered mufflers. The current exhaust has seen better days, and the mufflers are rotted at the seams now.

yeah i was actually living with my mom at the time and my dad told me if i moved in with him he'd give me the truck

It had just had the motor redone by himself .30 over and had everything brand spankin new put in it. new tires and such. Needless to say i jumped on the chance and left my mom high and dry :doah: I felt like **** but had alot of fun too.

I ran the hell out of that and went through 3 trannies but it's only my stupidity that did that. :haha:

I'd give up my 4 trucks to have that one back though. i think my dad sold it for $1200 which i thought was ridiculous

EDIT: oh and his had 2" pipes going into glasspacks which made it incredibly loud and i won every pipe war there was in school much less every burn out :D
