I'm doing an axle swap and putting a 14bff under the 72 k5. I want to lift it at the same time as the swap. I'm using ORD's 4" shackle flip which will net me about 2" over what I had, because I'm taking out the 2" blocks. I want to go to a 6" lift, but am quickly burning up the budget for this project. Ideally, I'd like to buy 6" lift springs for the front and 2 " lift springs for the back. I could save a few hundred bucks on the rear springs by using the overloads from the donar axle's spring packs along with zero rates....should get me the extra 2" I need. So, after all that, the question is.....has anyone used 2 overload springs on a spring pack.....is it like using an add-a-leaf.....what about ride quality.

Other options include a 2" add-a-leaf and ditching the overload spring thing or just save up the cash for the 2" springs. Any thought would be appreciated.
Thanks

you would probably need the overload and at least one of the main leafs to get 2 inches over stock with the overload.the stock springs are also probably saggy if they are stll stock.mine were almost flat from 30 years of abuse.it would probably be best to replace with 2 inch lift springs.then you get new springs all around ,with new bushings and the teflon spring spacers.would ride much better and have a positive arch.i think i got my pro comp rears for 300 for the pair.that was like 7 yrs ago.but at the time was the best price.rides real nice also.you will also get a extra inch lift from the axle tubes being an inch thicker on the 14ff.if you use extra leaves, you may also need new longer ubolts to compensate the extra spring height, which you will probably need anyway if the donor trucks dont look reusable.so thatll be anether 50 bucks i believe.

You will only get about a half inch of lift with the bigger axle tubes. Use the zero rate and a 6" shackle and that should get you close. Might look at getting the flip and a JY set of 56" springs from a burb. With all this you should be at right about 6" of total lift in the rear.

oops i forgot 1 inch extra diameter only nets half that for lift.springs still will be needed i think.even with extra long shackle.as u suggest that may be just about right if he can find good ones.

HM72, I have the same K5 and am going to go from about 4" of lift to 6"+. I currently have a 14bff, 3'-4"lift springs and a zero rate. I will be doing what I mentioned above to get the 6"+ of lift in the spring. This = 6" springs and maybe a zero rate in the front. The rear will have a homebrew flip that is about 5" as opposed to the DIY 4" flip, 6" crosstied shackles and a zerorate along with 56" rears. All should = 6"+ of lift. Might have a small rake to the blazer but that is fine. This is all an attemp to go from 35" meats to 37" down the linewithout any trimming.
