I'm sure most of us have the issue of the "hanging ash tray" I got some springs today at the junk yard. The million dollar question is how and the hell do you get these things on ? I saw how they were on the truck I removed from... but seems impossible to get back on my truck...

There is a spring? That's why it won't stay up all the way. I know there is a piece of metal at the bottom you can bend a little, but didn't know there is a spring. When you get it figured out, I would love to see a couple pics of how and where they go. Thanks for posting this. I would have never figured this one out!

It may be the hardest thig in the world to fix. 2 springs....one on each side.

I just pulled out the inner glove box to access the right side of the ash tray mounting assembly and pushed on it until the door was tight again. No tools required. I don't remember seeing any springs in there. Then again, this was four or five years ago.:dunno: No problems since.

Bump!

I just replaced my (working ashtray) for a junkyard one too. Springs were in it but after the install and a few cyles, the springs are now out. I found one but not the other.

I need to know too!

Wow, there are springs that hold it up?! I need to go to the junkyard again then! Do they stop it from rattling too...

Photos & Info greatly appreciated!

Yes, it is known to fix ALL squeaks and rattles in the entire truck. A very important spring! :haha:

I will say watch your eyes while dinking with these. I was trying to get mine back in a year ago this fall and had one come shooting out. Bounced off my glasses and vanished into the garage.

In the process of trying to get the spring to meet the little tab/hole in the back I managed to tweak something so mine sorta just stays up due to friction. You can hear it rubbing as it opens. Good enough for me.

Alright. Went to the junkyard and took some camera shots. Also picked up 4 springs in case I screw up!

Hope this helps!

thanks dude... thats the trick... you have to pull the ask try all the way down....beyond the stop thing...

Just be careful on the rubber stops. They tend to shear off pretty easily. Mine are gone and after pulling down on the above red ashtray, the rubber stops broke off too.

mine acutally has medal tabs that hold it up. I could bend them to lower all the way down. then bend back in place after to hold up.

I got it working...cant believe something so small could make me so damn happy.

I think my truck runs better now too, seems faster.... no more rattles as well!

Nice...I hope I dont have to change mine. lol. on a side note, did you check out the FIBER OPTIC Light that shines in the ashtray area? Crazy stuff. lol

I have that thing in a box somewhere... never hooked it up with the new cluster.

I tried to hook it up to my dash lights and it wouldn't fit into the socket.:dunno:

Maybe it was year specific somehow. The new one I got at the junkyard had it....but will not fit into the socket for some reason.
