Spun bearing, LSx Motor vs SBC, SM465 or swap

Stock 6.0 truck flexplate, LS2 pilot bearing, and your current clutch will work for the SM465/LSX motor. It worked flawlessly in my truck before I exploded it.
.

You should do some checking on this before buying into that advance adapters flywheel. Don't know if the 4.8 and 6.0 use the same flywheel (they both came with a standard factory) but I got my 4.8 flywheel from OReillys brand new for $50 and it bolts to the factory sm465 clutch. And the ls pilot bearing was the exact same as the one that came in my clutch kit for an 85 chevy.

I have heard hundreds of people incorrectly call a flexplate a flywheel, but have never heard anyone call a flywheel a flexplate before. I know what you meant to say, and I am sure he did, it just made me chuckle.

Wow... I'm superemely embarrassed... Because it's an EXTREME pet peeve of like when people say the wrong thing about which is which. :doah:

4.8/6.0 should be the same FLYWHEEL, cross-reference part numbers to be positive, but I'm 98% sure they're identical.

Another potential option, if you happen to find one for a good price, is an 8.1 swap. The benefits of that are that it mounts up just like a big block, so you won't have to worry about adapters and new mounts, and the necessary brackets are available from the factory if you want to retain A/C without cutting the frame. They are usually pricier and harder to find than the LS motors though. Just figured I'd throw that out there, since if you are going to upgrade, might as well do it once :waytogo:

its 3/8's. And if your good with paying $2000 for it all said and done, then go for it!

Thank you man! You've helped me decide to hold off on the swap for now. I work two part time jobs and while I do have the current savings to complete this swap, I don't think it is wise to do so considering my current financial position.

When the time does come to put a motor in this truck I'll definitely be doing an LS motor.

Just to clarify, the 6.0/4.8 flywheel works with a small block factory pressure plate and friction disc? Does this flywheel bolt to the 5.3 crank though?
