Squarebody CHOP Shop

Today I had a bit of a break between projects and took the time to clean and organize in the shop. After getting all the accumulated cardboard cut up to fit in the recycle bin and putting away parts that accumulated on the floor, I turned my attention to reorganizing the hardware shelves.

I brought home a truckload of Akro bins a couple weeks ago and began sorting all the electrical, random hardware, and nuts, bolts and washers. This will make it much easier to find what I need.

Technically not a shop project, but the wife wanted to wall mount the TV to eliminate the TV stand and free up floor space. It can also be pushed flat to the wall when not in use. Ignore the cables for now as I still need to mount shelving for the battery backup and waiting on a speaker mount that will hang it under the TV. Then I will be able to eliminate the satellite DVR and go to streaming only.

Last week, we had to put down the last two of our horses. Since then I have been pulling down fences and horse stalls in the small barn. Today, I finished cleaning out the barn to park equipment in there.

When we built the stalls, I had to put gravel over the concrete to raise the floor level due to the way water runs through the floor of the building since they built the building on an old concrete slab that slopes into the building. The long term plan will be to cover the whole slab with a 40 x 100 pole barn.

So it sounds like you are done with horses.
I know nothing about them, but I assume they are expensive and a lot of work

My wife and I have both had horses our whole lives. We see them as a life long commitment, as in we take care of them until their last day. That came at the cost of always needing one of us at home to take care of them as they got older. We made the decision several years ago not to get any more after these were gone so we could travel together more.

So no more pictures of the chop shop with a horse hanging out in the background. :frown

A bit of trailer upgrades and maintenence this week.

Added a weight distribution hitch (lost space for toolbox due to hydraulic pump mounting bracket)

Added D-rings for winch anchor points.

Moved the spare tire mount since it has always been in the way and I now had space where toolbox used to be.

Pulled tires to install new ones, found front axle springs had pulled out of rear slipper shackle and brake wires broken on passenger side.

90% done at 7:30 pm and I realize I lost the wire nuts I went to buy for the project yesterday. The good news is, I lost them in the store and didn't pay for them at least.

One trip to Lowes and it is operational for the night. I will button up the last stuff tomorrow.
