Squarebody Mega Cab

Suburban transforms into crew cab short bed
why do you not want to run the 10.5 Sterling?

The thought to redrill crossed my mind but i was wanting to be able to run into parts store and use off the shelf parts. But i guess the hats and floating disc’s arent an item you can walk into the parts store for either. I should just redrill, will be annoying when changing brake rotors but as long as not warped could probably turn them a time or two and not have to redrill a second set for a while.

Would have been nice if dodge 60/aam rotors worked with redrilled hubs. Too convenient to be the case.

Thanks for the feedback guys, glad I asked!
Or you could buy and drill two sets the first time and leave spares on the shelf.

Get a newer set of super duty axles, I believe '17+ and they have an electric locker from the factory. Older ones mostly all have a limited slip. The duallies have a Dana 80 rear. Not sure on the width though. Diesels got 3:73 or 4:10 gears and V10 trucks got 4:30 gears and maybe the 6.2L gassers too. I would keep them matching and not combine a ford front with dodge rear. Way easier for getting parts later. The front axle will have plenty of braking. Go big and get some F550 axles. Super 60 front and a Dana S135 rear. Definitely custom wheels at that point.

Well, I just picked up a set of SD axles, 4.10 ratio. Was originally wanting 3.73, but 4.10’s will work. Deal was too good to pass up. I’ll tear down the 60 in the spring and work with @Hogback Fabrication to get all the parts I need to get her mounted up.

I’m stubborn and still wanting the 11.5 for the rear. If I go that route I’ll probably redrill the hubs and a set or two of rotors. Its not an urgent thing for now; main focus is on the cab surgery, which I will be working on at the end of October/beginning of November.

That hit my feed as well. Definitely same idea. Says he added about 5.5”. Looks like he kept the raised suburban cab height, and welded in transition. Thats definitely the easiest approach, just not sure if it will give the factory-like look I’m going for. We’ll see

Not much of update yet - neither body has gone under the knife yet, been really busy with work so haven’t had time.

That said, i took advantage of black friday and bought all the hogback fab SD60 swap parts, and couldnt help myself with some bling ruffstuff diff covers.

If all goes as planned, should be picking up some more parts for the build in the next couple weeks

Yea ive seen those and the western haulers had same/similar size. The proportions look off, but the space inside is awesome based on the pics ive seen of the interiors. I’m only really wanting to do about 1/2 of that so the proportions look better. That much space would look better with a window imo. That cab with a 6.5 or 8 bed would look goofy to me

Small parts update - i traded my th400 for a 4L80e/driver drop 241. Was really just after the 241. In pinch had to use wife’s lexus rx. Glad it all worked out.

Planning to start body work soon now that weather is warming up, finally. So more meaningful updates should be coming soon.

Finally got the ferd axles over to the house. They were hanging at my buddy’s house an hour away.

The SD60 looks so much beefier in comparison to the chevy 60 Ive got.

We poked around the sub and crew cab, and think we have a decent plan on where and how to make the cut. Need to get the body off the frame and onto a dolly first, and then going to put in some temp bracing so nothing shifts. If schedules cooperate, hoping to cut and weld middle of May.

Waiting for UPS to show up this evening, I’m really excited for the contents. Will post once the box gets here.
