my tires finally grew up and are now 42" iroks on h1's, with flat centers and rock rings. Tires helped out a lot, I gained right at 1" at the diff at the same air pressure. I lost some stance though, in front I'm 82 1/2" outside of tires, before I believe I was 88 1/2", maybe only 86 1/2". I measured the rear and was only 1" narrower so I ordered up some 1/2" wheel spacers for now. I also had to cut the overloads off and hose clamp the leafs because of them rubbing the tires when getting just a bit our of alignment. So the question is, does anybody have a good all around number for width? I was very stable for my height before and don't want to lose that, but am I going to notice losing 6" of width? I would like to find another set of H1's and either go pressed centers, or backspace the flat center and use some gussets to get the desired back spacing. I really don't want to run spacers on all 4. Just seems like more to break. Maybe I'm just scared though.:dunno:

Interesting...

I'm not the expert but it sounds like a mathematical error.

If the tires before were smaller than how could they have been 3" wider?

Do you remember the size of the old set?

Was there spacers on there before?

The backspacing on the rims are 3" different?

Anyway I would go with only 2 spacers or none at all. Don't make it any wider than it has to be.

My tread is about 82" wide.
I'm rolling on 35 x 13.5 x 15 BFG KRAWLERS on sissy 10 bolts.

Difference is the wheels, I was on black steelies before. These are H1's with flat centers.

Yes sir I read the OP a few times.

There's no backspacing on the center of the H1's?

I think the typical backspacing on steelies is about 3.75"

What is the width of the steelies & H1's?

I must have not be clear about what I'm asking, I know why my stance is different. I am just wandering if anybody has any good suggestions on what width stance to go with and if I will even notice the loss in places like Moab.

Sorry I have more questions than answers.

I was interested in learning a thing or 2 about the subject.

H1's vs steelies.

When you moddify H1 wheels you can make them whatever backspacing you want. The previous owner made them with more backspacing, hence why the track width is narrower than his previous 10" wide steel wheels. H1s are 8.25" width btw.

No biggie, I have a habit of not saying things clearly sometimes. My old 10" wide black steelies had 3.5" back spacing I believe and I really don't know what the h1's would be. Would have to measure them. If you look at trailworthy fab's web site they don't use a number for just flat centers. Then you have some options that are extra for spacing the flat center.

So I'm wrong, its been awhile since I looked at their site. They offer 2.5,3,3.5,4,4.5 backspacing for the flat centers. Not sure what flat center all the way in is though.

I have my tire dismount and could probably measure about what yours would be in the morning. The center is right about against that lip wasn't it?

yes, pushed in as far as it will go. I think there is a little rounded part before the actual lip though.

I'll estimate your and measure mine and get a comparison.

Do you know how tall you used to be? Weight?

6100 with me and full of gas.

I wish i would have measured from ground but im pretty sure i was about a 3-4 inch lift. My 52s were pretty flat

edit best pic of height. Mike is on 6in lift and 37 hummers

so we aren't too far off from each other. I'm 6600 trail ready, and about 7' to top of cage, little over I'm sure now. Guess we will run this setup for awhile and see how it goes. See how many flops we have in moab and things might change:D
