started making my bumper update 9/15(pics)

$25 at today's price in Brookings (where I currently live) would give me about 3/8's of one tank. Comparatively, you can fill your truck addiction for a whole year for $25 on here.

EDIT: Just realized you live in Norway, I'm gonna go beat myself with a tack hammer.

Good lookin' start! U gona seal it up good and use it as an air tank too?

That is illegal for on highway use. Don't know if I would keep air in it excapt for when the actual time needed. Wait untill it fills only when needed and drain immediately after use.

Looks good!!!!!!! wanna build one for me? :D
if you lived closer i would, but the cost of steel right now is insane, if my boss had not gave me this piece for free i wouldn't be making this right now. i just called tube service to get a quote on a 10 ft piece of 1 1/2 od dom .188 wall tube for tooling for a job in our shop, i was quoted 178.00 :eek1:. also the shipping to you would be way expensive. :D any time there is free steel offered.....take it.

Never heard of that before :what: are you sure

let me see some more pics or get a description on how you bent that.

I understand how you did the taper on the ends, but the picture showing how you bent it in 2 places, I can't see how you did it.

what'd you do, but out 2 chunks, then bend, then will weld metal back into cover the holes?

I'm a NEWBIE welder, so I'm just wanting to learn :D

I get pulled over ALOT!!!! :D  :doah:
And I have NEVER had them check to see if my bumper was an air tank :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha:
It is, and it holds air all the time, for any amount of time, and it's safe. I have hit stuff hard enough to bend it while @ 120psi and had no problems with it :eek1:

sorry to hijack but what is the cost of fuel there?

Looks like about 6 bucks a gallon in Norway. Only a couple bucks more than what I am paying right now...

I still think I could afford 25 bucks for the info gained here.... but then again thats just me... :tongue1:

I've heard of this. I think it is a DOT thing about transporting compressed gas.

Nice work on the bumper. :waytogo:

So are you saying Over the road trucks with AIR BRAKES that use tanks to hold COMPRESSED gas (air) carry special permits or HAZ MAT endorsments??

not trying to be a d!ck or anything, just something seems fishy about this. Hell, i got firestone air bags on my 2500 HD and that contains compressed air all the time and its DOT legal.

I have a hard time believe compressed air over the road is illegal. Oxygen cylinders requiring tags and stuff I can see, but what's 100 PSI gonna do? It's not like you're gonna break the tank by brushing up against it. If you bust that bumper, there was a serious accident going on in the first place. Hell, look at the placement of the gas tanks on most OTR trucks, that's a lot more dangerous than a tank of air anywhere in the vehicle.

if you look at the 4th pic of my 1st post you will see a verticle line right where the taper on the bottom starts. i cut through one wall on that line and through the top and bottom 2 in wide walls. that left one 8 in tall wall. i bent it by hand back so it opened the gap up. it was easier then calculating how much to pie cut out to get the exact bend i wanted. once i figure out what bend angle i need or end up with, then i will make a piece to fill the gap then weld it in.

after that as i said i will make a cool lookin cap cover plate that has alot of surface area with holes in it to also weld in. i will get more pics soon. thanks again for the props fella's.

Compressed gas is compressed gas. Flammable, poisonous or just plain air. It is the pressure that makes the gas hazardous. Ever see a tank fail ? It's not pretty.
But I believe it has to do with the type of cyclinder it is stored in, the way it is mounted for transportation (Air brake tanks tucked into the frame for example), and the pressure it is stored at. I'm sure there is more to it though.
Any truck drivers with HAZMAT endorcements or other firefighters, police etc. can add to this please do.
