I just installed a starter brace GM part number 3965589 on the 350. What a differance it makes. It is so much easier to install. Plus the added support. just wanted to share the part number with others.

btw - I torque the two starter bolts to 30 ft lbs. is that enough?

for what year? gas or diesel? My 83 305 looks like it never had a starter brace from the factory for whatever reason. Not even a stud on the original starter for one.

Most of them were thrown away the first time a starter was replaced. That's what I do with them.

For the life of me,, I don't know why people still use the old Delcotron dinosaur starters....they are heavy as all get out,,,they draw massive amps...they eat flywheels if they aren't just right,,,they need braces,,have hot start solenoid issues....I have seen countless people fight starter issues over and over and over with the old delcotrons...

slap one of these puppies on and all your troubles will go away......
1/2 the amps,,,,solid mounting...can be clocked away from the exhaust heat....and STRONG.....most will whip over a 14.1 big block with no problem....for 125.00 at summit or jegs....you can't go wrong...

Maybe I should get a starter like that. The old delco remey is so heavy. PLus I hear about all the problems they can cause for he engine block. Broken ears, threads, and what not.

Do newer trucks use these lighter starters? Where is this starter made? I just can't come to terms of putting anything made from China on the K5.

They are pretty much all the same.....some have a little more hp on the starter motor...but the reduction does all the work.....I have one on my big block and it cranks it right over with no effort....:waytogo:
