:1zhelp: I was under the truck tinkering and noticed the starter bracket on the end of the starter wasn't bolted to the starter. So, i was looking at it and it looks like it is held onto the starter by a nut that threads onto the end of the rod that runs through starter. Anyways i went to take the bracket all the way off (didn't really need to and don't know why i did) and i ended up breaking the head off the bolt :doah: that goes into that "ear" tab thing on the engine. I think the engine anyway, im not sure i was to outraged to really look anymore. After that i threw the towel in for the night. I was wondering if this has happened to anybody else and what they did to fix it? I was thinking an easy out might work but theres not a whole lot of room to work. Not to long ago i put two new starter bolts in and i was wondering do i need that bracket? It has lasted a while so far and if i keep my eyes on those two bolts to make sure the starter isnt going to fall out i think i might be alright. Need some opinions and options on how the fix the problem, if i need to fix it? Thanks

You do need that bracket, I broke a bolt in each hole while running without one (one at a time obviously :doah:) and put two brand new bolts in each time, torqued to spec.

Are you saying that you broke the head on the bolt that goes into the side of the block?

Yes, i belive it is the block. Not sure cause im not looking at it right now. I think i'm just going to have to take my time and take the starter off, then try to get the broke off bolt out some how. The bugger is, is that it is sort of siezed in there. Going to be a pain. I wish there was some way to fab something up to help support that end of the starter?

So what happened here? Did you get the broken bolt out. I would imagine getting a hole drilled for an easy out would be a nightmare on the side of the block.
