Starts and dies, please help

It does flash the code 12, when I do the pin trick, but nothing else, just the 12 code over and over, so I'm not sure what could possibly be the problem besides the egr valve, cause obviously no code comes up, and what do you mean it may be a burnt out bulb? Those can cause the diagnostics to not work? And the check engine light goes on and off, unsure on what that may mean. And by no codes I mean I plug the diagnostic reader in and it doesn't connect to the computer at all

You said no codes, code 12 is a code. :) It works properly then, the ECM is not seeing any issues at that time.

When does the light go on and off? Should stay on with key on/engine off, then once it starts, shut off. If it comes on intermittently while driving, the ECM is seeing a problem at that time.

Ok, it usually comes on when I'm just coasting down the road after accelerating, which leaves me to believe that would be the egr valve not doing its job and recirculating the unburnt gas from the throttle body, so when I get the money I'll switch out the egr valve and let yall know whe there it shuts off or not

That means it's ok if it flashed 12. Means it's in diagnostic mode. If nothing else follows then the computer isn't reading any problems. Replace the valve and let us know.

Hey guys, it's been a while since I've posted on this forum, but I figured out that the problem was the ignition coil, replaced that and she ran continuously, now that it's been quite a while I've done lots of stuff on the truck, but the most recent, was getting my 4wd working again, I've replaced the thermal actuator with a set screw actuator that leaves the front differential engaged, but only 4wd when the lever is switched, I drove in my parking lot and got quite a lot of wheel spin going in a straight line, it's only wheel spin out of the back passenger side tire, was hoping anyone could shed some light on the subject at all
