all you have to do to make a 465 work is take it to a machine shop and have them enlarge the center hole. its 4.xxx on a regular bellhousing and they need to enlarge it to 5.xxx, i dont remember the exact dimensions...

So the bolt patterns for both car and truck trannys are the same?? Just want to make sure..

As far as ive read they are the same. i can measure my bell if you want. it wouldnt be til tomorrow but it could clear up some issues

Kind of a sidebar, has anyone ever modified one of these scattershields to use a non-GM transmission behind a GM engine?

I have not modified one myself but through my years working at a Speed Shop I have seen several SFI steel bells modified to fit what ever was needed.
Usually a spacer was needed for the length of the tranny input shaft and than the tranny bolt pattern was redrilled and index bore either had a ring machined to fill up space or the spacer was machined to the correct size and centered.

The reason I was asking, I found a few Spicer 3053A tranny's for cheap.
They are the 5 speed from the military deuce multifuels.

I found a JP magazine article where they swapped one into a Jeep M715 behind a 427 chevy. in the article, they had to get the bellhousing and adapter plate from a late 70's C60 with a 5 speed, and it bolted to the Spicer tranny, and then to the engine with the plate. I thought to myself, "wouldn't it be easier to modify a steel scattershield?"

thanks for the replies fellas

i remember some one having a farly detailed write up of there swap a year or so ago, did you search?

probably a crappy thing to search for too many responces
