steering after swap

Just a side note I have a simular or the same problem and have a thin shim.I have to steer my wheel back to straight after turning and have to keep a good hold on the wheel when driving or it will pull toward the dips in the road.Im thinking im gona remove my shim and drive it to see if the front pinion angle will still be ok.Most of the time the hubs are unlocked anyway so Im thinking for what I use it for it wont be too much of an issue.Hopfully anyway.Good luck

The biggest ajustment in the alignment that will correct this is caster.Positive caster is where the upper ball joint is closer to the rear than the lower. This is what you want.Positive caster will also return you wheel to center after making a turn and thus keep your wheel straight.Slow or no wheel return to center indicates little or no pos caster and neg caster will have the oposite afect like driving backwords.Fast wheel return indicates more pos caster was used.Shimming the dif for pinion angle ajustment will decrese the caster and cause this problem and get worse with a thicker shim.

The fat end of shim towards the front takes out caster. It is usually supplied by the spring mfr. to avoid giving you driveshaft issues. If you have stock shackles and app. specific lift springs, remove the shim and I bet your gremlin disappears. BTW, you can measure your caster with an angle finder

Good luck

Caster should be ~8 degrees if I remember right. I'd ditch the shim...

No shim helped alot, I think once I get the toe in perfected I'll be good to go, thanks guys!! Crossover=0 Bumpsteer :)

I see u dumped the shim. I was gonna say thats your problem. You have to have the axle cut and turned to corectly adjust the pinnion angle. Your 1/4" wider in the rear means you have an 1/8" toe in wich is fine. anoter way to scribe a line is to jack it up. take some light colerd spray paint and paint a line on the tire by spinning the tire and spraying a line with the can on the ground. take a board with a nail in it bent slightly downwards and spint the tire and scribe a line then measure your toe. Remember half the measured difference is actual toe and the front should be narrower than the back :D

got it aligned today here are the results give me your thoughts:D

left right
0.0 camber 0.3
7.0 caster 7.2
-.04 toe .01
9.7 included angle 11.5

cross camber -.3
cross caster -.2
cross sai-1.6
total toe -.03

Looks good.Must drive better.I would of thought the toe would be +.06 or around insteed of negative.

drove it a bit more today and it's still a bit squirrly should I put the shims back in the right way? Fat end in back?
