Anybody got any good ideas on how to get some old rusted steering arm studs out of a steering knuckle? started with some vise grips (that was worthless), then a pipe wrench (it broke). Tomorrow when I get off work I figured I might try welding some nuts on them and then hitting it with the impact. Any other ideas?

HEAT. thats how I got mine to budge. Then again I was replacing my balljoints & didn't care that I fryed the old ones.

Penetrating oil and let it set for a day or two. Then double nut the stud if you didn't mess up the threads to badly and use a wrench and a cheater bar to try and brake them loose. Some heat will help too as long as you don't go overboard.

I sprayed them with some penetrating oil tonight before I broke my pipe wrench in all it's fury. Maybe they'll loosen up

I hope you have better luck than I did. I had to use a torch on mine and it still fought me every step of the way. Cooked the ball joint, but I was going to replace them anyway. I tried pb blaster, and several other penetrating fluids. No luck.

Ended up cutting off the arm around the studs. Very carefully so I didnt get into the knuckle.

And yes I tried a 12 pound brass sledge b4 I cut it off.
