are there any tricks on getting your steering arm off the axle?

Just have an old really badly leaking diesel K10.

Mine slid right off:D

Heat

Try heating up the area then use a 2 lbs hammer and hit it hard...

:doah:Do not heat parts! The hammer technique works wonders. Just watch the cone washers, when one begins to loosen, thread it out with some pliers and hammer and repeat.

Assuming this is a 10bolt or Dana 44, There is a sweet spot. Sure seems to be anyway. 3" or so from the forward most cone washer.

And like they said, beat it like it owes ya money!

Yup that is exactly where I hit them. Smack it on the forward edge with a slight downward blow(s). A few well chosen words will set the proper mood.
Works every time for me. The 8Lb maul helps too:D.

Don't hit it up or down on the end that the dfrag link hooks to. I just cracked one doing that - and I knew better :angry1:. Like they said above, soak it, hit it, hit it again. I would also recommend leaving the nuts at the top of the studs so that when you miss and hit the stud, it will not mess up the threads.
