Steering box frame crack.

Could it be you got a defective/damaged plate? How many people ditched the frame plates and what was their work around, if you know.

What no one has figured out here is that it looks like the ORD plate is now the same as the rough country plate.

I'd bet a paycheck that the ord plate and the rough country plate are from the same stamping factory.

Yea, when shopping for this plate I noticed that or suspected it the same. Rough country was slightly cheaper. I decided to use ORD because most of my truck is ORD products and also what @Babaganoosh stated a few posts up.

There is not 4 - 5 - 6 xxx' plants making all our repair parts or body parts ..

There just who buys what level of quality that comes off the line and slapps there name on it . .

Thats the general idea i have gathered over the years .

I have a " 3 notch" ord plate on my stepside from like 15 years ago.

Here is my 2 cents on ORD being more expensive.

Yes they are more expensive but they are a true grass roots family company... They wheel what they sell and excellent customer service. I have sat on the phone with Stephen for probably hours. My truck is damn near a catalog of ORD and I will pay extra for the tech and knowing the stuff will work.

Most of all they support the site and Blazer Bash.

There’s a lot of stuff you can only get from ORD which is why I order that stuff through them. This was an experiment. I expected this Amazon part to be cheap, thinner and less robust than the ORD version, however they are identical. Just an experiment. I’m going to use them.

I'm gathering this info, so when and if the shop doing this for me, potentially runs into a bump, I can steer them here for advice. Hopefully they don't but this info will prove valuable either way.

Picked the Blazer up today. Fixed the cracks, welded ORD steering brace weld on kit, painted. I printed rough country's instructions for them as the ORD ones leave a lot to be desired. Welded up the crack on the inside of the frame rail by the box

Now, can I make those bolts for the box go through the steering box and put a nut on them?

If so, how is it done?

1. Get longer bolts that go through the box
2. Thread said bolts through the box and put a lock nut on the other side.

It felt more stiff. I do think that may be more to do from theORD bolt on brace kit. Now with this welded on kit, it did feel at least I think, even more stiff. But honestly that could be placebo, however. It didn't feel more sloppy at all. But I need to replace a lot of the steering components this year as well to stiffen that whole area up.

Was it worth it, yes, absolutely. Even if you don't have cracks put both on. Bolt-on and weld-on ORD kits or the equivalent from other companies.

I don't need to drill it out? I'd rather not do that but if it's needed I will.

What size bolt is down there? 7/16 coarse if I remember correctly?.?.?.

I didn’t drill mine, I’m not fond of that, if the nuts come loose you don’t have a backup. I threaded mine through and put nuts on

Sounds good to me. I'll go to ace tomorrow if I don't have one bolt, along with a washer and nut in my coffee can of grade 8's....

I wouldn't drill out the box.
Longer bolts, torqued properly, then driven, and retorqued.
Then add lock nuts, this will be like double nutting a bolt, as a jamb nut
