A friend of mine wants to make his own weld in repair kit for his steering box. Has anyone done this before? Does anyone have any pics?

I've never heard of it being done. Why would he want to bother? The kit is pretty cheap and would be hard to improve upon. The area around the steering box mounting holes needs to be dimpled, which would make for a lot of work to get it right.

For $65 the ORD kits is definitely worth it. Just put mine on last week! Look great!!

The fish plates, not the brace.

For anyone with any sort of lift or big tires, I seriously recommend that triangulating bracket.. it works really well and is a nice piece. -- that is, I recommend it if you're frame isnt already cracked ... its well worth the 100 bucks especially in the long run.. I think I paid $99 at offroad whorehouse, oops i mean offroad warehouse about 6 months ago.. Its the same one that ORD sells, AFAIK.. (made in so-cal where I live, too)

The weld in kit costs 65 and the bolt in costs 95. I just got mine in last week.

I'd go with the 'made for' the frame ones, not homemade. And whatever direction you go, do both the brace and the fishplates. I had only the brace and ended up with a crack.

Aparently its 65. My memory sucks. I could have sworn that it was 90 when I ordered mine. But I ordered the plates and the bolt on kit at the same time. Just call Stephen and find out for sure.
