I spent the better part of 1:00am to 4:00am last night fighting the damn thing... is there a trick to lining up the bolts? I'm also trying to install the ORD steering brace, tis a bittch.:1zhelp:

line up one hole first. once you get 1 in its pretty easy to get the rest in. i usually have the first bolt already through the hole and then line the box up with that bolt and start threading it in with my hand. with 1 in you can let it hang and regain your strength haha cuz it gets heavy after you hold it for a while. of course 2 people makes it real easy cuz you can use the same strategy, but use 2 bolts instead of 1 at a time. hope that helps some

Yeah that's the sad part, I actually had someone helping me...:doah::haha:

I actually got two bolts started, torqued one down, and when I went to torque the other one I kinda stripped the hole out although I was pretty damn sure it wasn't cross threaded.:o

So now it's just hanging by the one bolt... just for some reason it's really hard to get the bolts started, I'll be back at it tonight though.

I put the forward lowest in first then swing it up and slide the steering shaft on and then put the second bolt in and so on.

Good ideas, thanks guys.

And yeah the forward lowest bolt is the one that's in already, it was a pain the ass to get too...

I did my box myself. It took a while but I was able to get it done. What I did was take three 2" long bolts and cut the heads off then cut a slot across the top so I could remove the "alinement studs" with a screwdriver. I screw the studs into my box and put my box on my frame. I didn't have the driver side tire on yet so I had plenty of room. The studs were long enough to hold the box without it falling to the ground. I pushed the box against the frame and moved it around till I got one bolt in. Then I remove a stud and replace it with a bolt one at a time and torque every thing down. This was the steering brace and a bent frame, so this method works (for me).
A word of advice. Torque every thing down again after a short drive because everything will loosen up. I was surprised how much everything loosens up on mine. All the u-bolts and the steering arm were loose. I still need to put to put a torque wench on the steering box though.

Don't tighten any of them until you have all 4 of them started.

Don't bolt the steering brace to the crossmember until after you snugged up the bolts on the gear box.

Oh yeah, this piece of advise helps a whole lot too. It is hard to start a bolt when it not lined up. Loosen the few bolts you have tighten down already.

you must have missed my post, here's how to install a gear box...:doah:

:haha::haha::haha:

I've seen the pic in the lounge a couple of times. Is it you, Brian, and Pauly?

I made some studs out of b7 all thread for mine and trimmed the inner fender to let it slide in easy. It made life SO much easier.

That alignment stud idea should work pretty well too. You can wrestle it all day long trying to get it on there with everything still hooked up using bolts...did that a couple times then started making studs for mine. I can get mine on there and torqued down in about 5 mins by myself.

Dude get someone to help and be paitent. and sober, lol Get the first one in and work the others. tighten and then hit'em again a little later. My ord brace and box was a peace of cake.

I hate to add insult to injury but I didn't have a hard time installing it

My bad, I jumped ahead, was refering to the original point of the thread. So no, there was no insult :waytogo:
