So i noticed the shaft coming out of my steering box and connecting to my pitman arm is moving in and out of the box (haha:wink1:) as I turn the steering wheel side to side. Prolly about 1/4" to 1/2"

Question 1. Is any amount of play normal if so how much?
Question 2. Will adjusting the nut on the top of the box correct this?
Question 3. Is my steering box just done for?

I figure this could be a major contributing factor to the sloppy steering.

There is a hex adjusting thing on the top of your sector shaft. If you turn that counter clockwise it will snug up your sector shaft, dont over do it though just make a good fit. Then tighten the jam nut so it doesnt back out again

ahh sector shaft thats the word i was looking for.
Ok good so adjusting that thing on the top of the shaft is the right way to go about this. Thanks for the info.

If the adjusting nut does not solve the issue it's time for a new box or rebuild with new bearings.
