I’m sure this question has been answered, but in 5 hours I can’t find it. Closest I found was a reference to a “92 square body suburban”.

I recently found this 89 Jimmy. Great body and interior, but... the da po poorly installed a speed shift floor shifter. The steering column is junk, plus no horn, wipers, tilt, cruise, highs, or bolts holding the plate to the firewall. Also the linkage for the floor shifter is bolted to the U bolt for the cat!! I’ve found a great tilt column shift from a 92 Suburban with all the linkage. It is not a square body Suburban, will this column work? The firewall plate on the currently installed column is not bolted now because it’s not the right shape. Is the plate on the 92 the same as the hole in my 89’s firewall? Thanks to all for sharing your knowledge.

Ok, I went ahead and got the column. The firewall plate appears to be the only difference I can see. The plate is welded on the 92 column. Is there a way to cut it off and slide the other collar on?

Did you measure the length?
I would use a cut-off wheel, then a grinder with a flap wheel.
