Subtle as a hand grenade!

I have a 1983 CK 1500 with an extended cab. The owner has spent a fortune on and apparently it kicks out about 450h and over 500lbs of torque! She's an Auto fitted with an Edlebrock Slap-shift.
I think as the previous owner removed the original column shift to instal the slap=shift, i think this is where the damage has been done, so at some stage, i want to re-install the column shift (its so wide on the roads over here, i've got enough to worry about without the slap-shifter!! lol!)

Campfire thank you for this! yeah i think you're right, theres very little standard on this truck!!Looking at how many things aren't stock, I can believe the owner spent a fortune. You should definitely share pictures of the extended cab region. Since GM never made that combination, each one out there is unique and special.
It looks like the steering column isn't filling the hole in the dash. It should be, so something is non-standard there.
Are you keeping all the decals? I'm seeing a transformers theme, which begs the question of just what it transforms into.

Do you know how much a C/K 1500 weighs??

), so you shouldn't be heavier than that. I'd be guessing you're somewhere between 4500-5000 lbs empty.

Is it a "C" (2WD) or a "K" (4WD) model. There will be a weight difference. Also, what is your wheelbase? Is this a cab-and-a-half with a 6' bed or something shorter? It doesn't look like a standard 8' bed. Either way, it's not an option that GM offered, so your weight numbers will be unique, to say the least.
Total weight rating for a 1/2-ton truck of this era is about 6000 American pounds (not to be confused with British pounds), so you shouldn't be heavier than that. I'd be guessing you're somewhere between 4500-5000 lbs empty.
Taking an example, stock curb weight for a 1986 K10 with a long fleetside bed is 4668 pounds (excellent resource here, I'm citing page 17). Your 1983 will not be significantly different than a 1986, but your mods will have an effect.
the designation between 10 and 1500 models is just the badging. 1500 models are badged as GMC trucks. The chevy equivalents are tagged as 10 models. They are identical aside from the badging. So numbers/parts applicable to one will also fit the other. My 1/2-ton GMC truck is a 1983 K1500. Might just be your truck's twin, if you have a transfer case.
Edit - I see locking hubs hanging out of your front wheels. So you do have a K1500 model (not a C1500). My long lost twin. Kinda.![]()

@dsbodley, are you able to see pictures of my rigs yet?

Your threads are now showing in your posts, so i can see them that way. Its pretty early here so i'll look forward to having a look tonight!![]()

I died in March, (yes you read that right....DIED)

bought a new house in hospital and moved in in August

So yeah, spent about 6 months in hospital last year which didn't help with buying and transporting the truck etc!hahaha! Well about a month before i got taken into hospital, i'd been looking for a new place and as it was a brand new development, i slapped down a deposit then had to have the documents fedexed to me inside and sent back and forth, plus just email all my choices to the developers. There was no chain involved so luckily it was pretty simple.
I'd been complaining to my local GP for about 5-6 years of these symptoms i was getting and they did jack, then i started getting a couple of weird issues which culminated with me getting taken into hospital with heart failure, renal failure, pneumonia and chest failure where i died and they brought me back. They did some investigation as i'm generally pretty healthy as in i played rugby most of my life and trained twice a day so they couldn't understand it, then eventually they found the tumour!
Because it had been left so long, it had grown to 14cm x 14cm which is pretty big and i now have a mahusive scar where they took the mofo out!So yeah, spent about 6 months in hospital last year which didn't help with buying and transporting the truck etc!
