steering problems

A cheap way? Probably not.

Have a friend move the steering wheel back and forth slightly and look under the front end of the truck for anything with play in it (drag link ends, tie rod ends, ball joints, etc.). It could be your steering box too.

everything is tight tie rod ends ball joints ect. the steering wheel just has alot of play in it the steering wheel turns about hafe a turn both ways before the tires turn

could be your gearbox, your pitman arm could be loose, or in an EXTREME case you could have broken your centering pin on your spring and your whole axle is moving back and forth before it turns the tires....:wink1:

Tighten the bolts holding the steering box to the frame. If they're tight, look for cracks around the box on the frame. Cracked? Think welding, weld-on brace kit AND bolt-on. ;)

Then look, as others have pointed out, at the tie rod ends, particularly the draglink ends, ball joints, wheel bearings, rag joint, and the box itself.

But the box bolts are famous for backing out, especially when the steering is beat on.
