I recently bought an 88 k5 and on it was a small grant steering wheel. i picked up an older chevy steering wheel to replace it. After I swapped it on, my steering wheel gets bound up in one certain area. turning the wheel right is no problem and when i turn past that one spot where it binds its good too. when I turn slight left it feels like im losing power steering, but i dont think thats the case. can you over tighten a steering wheel nut? would that cause it to bind?

-check ps resevoir
-does the new wheel have pickup rings for the center horn button? plastic pickup ring prolly came loose when tightening down. (readjust)
-it steered "fine" after you did yer steering brace right? (illiminating any possible issue beneath the column)
-sometimes the friction will go away after warm up (too damn cold out)
-try backing off the nut a bit and see if it stops binding

Quite possible that the plastic doo dad that runs the blinker is incompatible with the old wheel. I know when I put on my Grant steering wheel, I couldn't make the horn work quite right and just did without a horn. I also had to buy a new plastic goodie for the turn signals since I managed to break the old one doing the install.

Good info here, im putting a grant wheel on my k5 soon, i hope i dont have any issues!
