A bit over 15" diameter, stock is over 16" IIRC. Mostly this one is just a ton more comfortable.

this one was from a '92 K1500

Rene

i have the same wheel, except mine has chevy on teh horn button. mine came out of a 92 s10 blazer. its just about perfect diameter and nice and thick.

I want that button. Is it a better quality than the original one on the Grant? The original is adequate but a little cheap feeling. Do you have a picture of your wheel you could post?

This one. The only problem with grant wheels is the cheesy horn button. You have to substitute a stronger spring to keep it from grounding out over rough terrain.

I measured mine today and you're right on both of them :waytogo:

By that I'm going to need a 14 inch wheel in order to give me some room..

Anybody running a 14 inch Grant or other ?

I had a grant-like steering wheel but nobody would inspect my truck with the smaller diameter wheel, which gave me an excuse to get the wheel I wanted.

Yeah the stock is perfect for me. I have no tilt steering, it just seems to be in the right place.

stocker for me too....

however mine is an "UPGRADE" to my 78... I put a 1985 column in... so I could have the wipers and high beams on the column...

It feels better, and looks alot more substantial, kinda ghetto though, because the center button, sticky tapes to the original, and then its held on by the bolted on outer piece. I got it, cause the grant sticker on the plastic one, was peeling off.

I put a Cavalier steering wheel on my 74 K20,after installing "custom" bucket seats, the OEM wheel was cutting a groove in my legs..it fit perfectly and the horn worked fine too..

i too have a 93-94 Cavvy wheel on my C1500. its 14 1/2", and has a nice performance feel to it. my buddy had one in his K2500, and it was just about perfect.

my stocker from the 81 K30 is exactly 16"

i have run 13 1/2" Grant wheels on previous C- trucks, and liked the road feel with them. all of my derby cars get a 13 1/2" Grant wheel, makes them easier to throw around in the pit.

here's a pic of the Cavvy wheel installed on my C1500.

I've got a leather wrapped stock chevy wheel from a 93 S10 blazer. Same as Trusty's, but with the leather. I like the size of it, both diameter and rim thickness. The PO on mine had installed a teeny 13" Grant and one ride around the block prooved that was not the way to go. Made the steering so stinking twitchy I felt like if I sneezed on it I'd be in the next lane over.

Next choice would have been a 4 spoke wheel from a 78-81 Z28. Got one of those in my Nova..

I have an el cheapy grant, cost me like 50 bucks new. Its 14" and it blocks the guages a little bit but no big deal since I use my GPS as my speedo

Stock wheel blocks the gauges no matter what you do, at least from my perspective. I can see my speedo all the time though, so it's just the little four on the left that get blocked, namely the volts IIRC. Radio a bit too, but I know the remote for my radio so I never really have to look at it.

I just want some more leg room :D

I don't think going down to a 14 inch wheel will change the steering leverage much.. I think that I will try to find one in another vehicle 1st and if not then I will buy one..

Tilt! Get a tilt column. Theres all the leg room you could want. I use mine all the time. Tilt it up and out of the way for getting in/out and then I tilt mine down almost all the way when driving around town. Just feels more comfortable to me there. Off road I leave it about in the middle so I have room for my hands if I got to spin the wheel real quick.

Yes the tilt columns get a bad wrap for being loose at the upper knuckle. An hour spent with the right tools and some loc-tite will solve that issue. Just as long as you don't use the steering wheel as a grab handle to get in. That wipes them out. You can't beat the adjustability for it.

If you really want more leg and belly room go for a tilt/telescoping column out of a mid 70's vette. Besides going up and down like a tilt the wheel goes in and out away from you. Same column on the top end (well for those of us without the wiper and dimmer switches on the column) as the eariler trucks/k5's, but I don't know if they are the same length on the other end and might need some adaptation to fit. It's a hard one to find, much like a truck tilt from a 4-speed truck (like mine) as street rodders liked this column before the aftermarket came out with thiers. Still a thought though.
